Firearms
National law requires that:
- Persons must be 20 or older to purchase or possess firearms (without supervision).
- All long guns and hand guns registered into the national firearms and weapons database.
- Bans machine guns, automatic rifles and large-capacity magazines.
- Bans sound suppressors.
- All persons purchasing or possessing long guns and hand guns must pass a background check, psychiatric evaluation, complete a firearm safety class, submit fingerprints and purchase insurance and then wait to be issued a license with a 14-day waiting period. This includes all public and private sales. Persons with a history of mental illness, domestic violence, restraining orders and drug and alcohol use are not eligible. There is no gun show loophole, all sales and transfers must be document in the national database and the receiving person must have a license by meeting the requirements as stated above.
- Ammunition and firearms must be stored away from persons under 20. Violations result in license revocation.
- Concealed carry is banned.
- Must renew license once every 2 years. Furthermore, licensees must pass an inspection by local police on the storage of ammunition and firearms. This can be done annually if a report of misconduct is received. If long gun or hand gun is lost, stolen or is transferred to another individual, it must be reported to police within 48 hours.
- Bans non-police civilians from carrying firearms on school and government property unless written permission is given in advance by a public safety department
