The West Concordian Islands (Pisdari: Martu'shusigir abkir; French: Îles de la Ouest-Concordienne) is an archipelago in the Sea of Nautarya, located off the coast of Nautasia. Administratively, it is made up of two political entities, the Republic of Pisdara, and the Aininian overseas territory of the Charline Islands.
Inhabited since around 200 BCE, the island chain has been ruled by multiple states over its history, from the Sultanate of Nautarya to colonial Ainin. The Charlines have been a part of Ainin since 1823, and Pisdara was a colonial possession from 1868 until its independence in 2016.
History
Demographics
The West Concordian Islands are ethnically diverse, although Pisdara, with a population of over 28,000, dwarfs the Charlines in population. By first language, the most spoken is Pisdari (21,970; 66.9%), followed by French (9,213; 28.0%), and Arabic (1009; 3.1%).
The workforce on the islands are mainly employed in the primary sector, especially fishing and agriculture. The service sector has begun to emerge along with tourism, primarily in towns such as Ashuragar, Sakar, and Port-Louis.
Government and politics
The West Concordian Islands are divided into the Charline Islands in the south and the Republic of Pisdara in the north. Both entities have a political union with nearby Ainin, in which the Charlines are an overseas territory and Pisdara is in a state of free association, acting nominally as a fully independent actor under the protection of the Aininian government.
Transportation
Transportation between the islands are minimal, due to their distance. A ferry line exists between the three main Pisdari islands, although no regular transport exists between Pisdara and the Charlines. Islanders often travelling between the two use air travel, flying into Ainin as a layover.
