The West Phoenician Socialist Party is considered the biggest Democratic Socialist party in the nation.
It is made up of four former smaller socialist parties who merged to create a strong foundation party to represent the workers of West Phoenicia and promote social equality for all.
The West Phoenician Socialist Party stands by the belief they are the only left wing party, citizens can trust.
History
Prior to 1980, West Phoenicia had four minor socialist political parties.
They consisted of;
- Socialist Workers Party
- Revoluntary Party
- Socialist Green Alliance
- United People's Party
All four polled well at a city-state level, gaining a handful of seats each.
On the National level they did not perform so well as each of the parties were competing against eachother for the same voters. They had to go up against the West Phoenicia Empire First Party also which was the domimant centre-left party in West Phoenicia.
Splitting the leftist vote was hurting the Socialist base, as it became harder to go against the powerful conservative parties who were more united.
In 1978 and 1979 a number of Socialist Solidarity conferences were held in Red Sun City; the capital of the Scarlett Orient Isles.
The outcome was a decided merger of all four parties under the new name Socialist Party of West Phoenicia and Bob Green of the Socialist Green Alliance was elected to lead the party.
The newly formed Socialist Party in the 80's supported the West Phoenicia Empire First Party, in return a number of their own policies were supported. Primarily in areas of abortion, welfare programs and other social justice legislation.
In 1984 Bob Green was dismissed from leadership and so were half the members of the Socialist Green Alliance for promoting violent protests to get their message across.
During the 4th and 5th West Phoenician civil wars the party had limited powers as Queen Jezebel Bush choose to suppress the party for speaking out against her.
Many socialist supporters chose exile during this phase.
Those Socialist politicians who sided with the Queen were later voted out of office when normal elections resumed.
The Socialist Women's Federation was banned during the reign of Queen Jezebel when 300 women marched to the palace demanding the Queen abdicate due to her closure of abortion clinics and what they saw as her war on the left. Many of the leaders of the Socialist Women's Federation were arrested or forced into exile.
Once Glenton Gryphon-Bush II ascended to the throne, all political parties that had been banned or forced into exile were free to return.
Eddie Rox-Indi was appointed as leader of the Socialist Party in 2014. He was a younger fresher leader.
He was able to use his youth to rally the younger base to rally and join the Students for a Progressive Society.
The Students for a Progressive Society hold numerous demonstrations and protests throughout West Phoenicia on a regular basis, calling for change, and for youth to rise up and make those changes in areas of equality, environment and welfare.
Since 2014 he has advocated for reducing the voting age to 15, increasing welfare programs, funding to deal with climate change, increased youth payments to keep kids in high school and university, reintroducing an open door policy for refugees and immigration, decriminalization of drugs, voting rights for prisoners, increased funding for farmers by banning certain imports and making the monarchy a ceremonial position only.
The Socialist Party has an impressive 80 seats across the nation on a national level. Most City-state state elections have Socialist member's in their parliament.
The Socialist Party also has 2 governor, Scarlett Orient Isles since 2010 and Western Norse Territory since 2019.
