Whitebay is a city located in Brytene. It is the capital of Susseax, the smallest canton in Brytene. Whitebay has long been a prosperous and thriving harbour, being situated in a large sheltered cove with a deep bed, and the major Hlaford Shipyards can be found on the western bank of the cove.

History

Early history

Whitebay was founded in 712AD when Saxon merchants spotted the natural cove that made the area perfectly suited for shipping and shipbuilding. Messrs Smythe and Sloop invested in a range of shipyards in 1671, and in 1682 the local Thegn purchased the shipyards, which quickly grew to give the town a reputation as the finest shipbuilding region in Brytene.

Modern age

Whitebay remained vital throughout the following centuries, and during the First Atlasian Great War it was a key manufacturer of war materiel and ships. However, following the cessation of hostilities, the town saw an economic downturn, with many people leaving the area in search of jobs elsewhere.

Wernham-Hogg purchased the Shipyards in 1952, revitalising local industry and slowly restoring Whitebay to its former prominence. However, in 1973, the Whitebay Crisis resulted in serious damage to the local infrastructure and the deaths of over a hundred residents.

Only recently has the town recovered, and it is now seen as an attractive tourist destination thanks to its quaint 17th-century buildings and long promenades. The town is currently seeing an influx of workers thanks to planned expansions to the Shipyard in light of Valaran investment, with the Shipyards being a major employer for the entire Susseax canton.
