The XM-1 Main Battle Tank is a license-built Pythgrian design developed for the newly developed Blackhelm Confederate Army in the late 1990's. The tank served as a stopgap measure until the introduction of the XM-2.
Development
Following the development of the CC-58, tank design in the Empire of Exponent curtailed significantly, with the majority of development shifted towards APCs and IFVs to meet the demands of the ongoing Hesperidesian Revolutions.
As a result, when the Blackhelm Confederacy was established in 1997 there was a shortage of designers and manufacturers available to create a new tank meant to conduct the kinds of ambitions goals the new Confederate government set out to achieve. In order to produce a modern, capable tank, the newly created Goldeneagle Defensive Works reached out to designers in the nation of Pythagria for assistance.
Design
Armament
For a primary weapon, the XM-1 uses a "Bolter" 120mm smooth bore ETC cannon to fling shells at incredible velocities. For a secondary armament, it uses a pair of .50 caliber Kord coaxial machine guns, two .50 caliber Kord machine guns on the roof, and two Ingwe AT missile launchers. The top machine guns each have a bullet proof transparent aluminum"bubble" over them, to protect against bullets up to .50 caliber. The transparent aluminum bubbles open to the rear, while the tank hatch opens to the right, allowing the crew to button down when necessary, or to pull over the bubble if the guns are needed. The two pieces can not, however, be sealed at the same time. The missiles can be reloaded from INSIDE the tank, using third-generation auto-loaders. It also has four Florernst turrets on top. These fire large bullets very fast at incoming missiles.
Armor
The XM-1 utilizes amorphous metal (metal with no discernable pattern in atomic arrangement), to full effect, sandwiching it between two plates of ceramics, and covering it with triple-hardness steel. This allows it to withstand all but the toughest of attacks, but it is a bit heavy. The armor is sloped 80 degrees on the front, 60 on the turret, 40 on the sides, but only 30 at the back. It's also 4 inches thick.
Sensors/Electronics
The XM-1 uses the Great Eye sensor system (cameras, IR, etc.), and the VIOLA supercomputer for targeting, emergency intervention, and stuff like that. It utilizes a radar also.
Engine
The XM-1 uses a 3,000 horsepower engine capable of pulling it along roads at 40mph. It runs on either biodiesel, ethanol, or normal diesel.
