History

The Virtuous House, or Xiu Nimja is the oldest continuous lineage of the Mutul, capable of tracing its roots without interruption back to Asuitok the Dwarf-King, founder of Oxmal in the 3rd century AD. Since then, A Xiu has always been the leader of the city be it as an independent ruler, a vassal of the Ytze, of the Kawkom, of the K'uy or Ilok'tab dynasties. Through their political control of the region, they maintained themselves as the prime bankers, insurers, and jurists of their Yajawil. In the 16th century they're the main investor behind the fourth recorded Nuk Nah: the "Company of Waymil". During the 17th and 18th centuries, Waymil was one of the main trade hub of the Mutul, with the Xiu Dynasty becoming responsible for an important Stock exchange that developed there, where it was possible to invest in the merchant fleets of the Nuk Nah. In their position of "protector" of both the Yajawil markets and the Waymil Nuk Nah, the Xiu developed their activities as insurers, lenders, investors, and suppliers.

With the end of the Mutulese Ochran and the Sajal War, the Yajawil of Oxmal went through a difficult economic crisis. The Xiu, who had temporarily lost their seat as Yajaw of Oxmal, agreed to consolidate most of their financial activities with those of their once-rivals for Makrian and Ochranese trades. This formed the basis of the Western Maritime Bank which remain one of the "Big Four" Commercial banks of the Mutul.

Nonetheless, to survive the evolution of society, the House of Xiu also consolidated its other activities into the modern Xiu Conglomerate.
