Operation Hretha aimed to roll back the efforts of Army Group Gamma, which had previously been defeated in Operation Sagaris. General Tibor Fehér, commander of Army Group South, hoped to isolate and destroy the Syaran 5th Army and collapse the Syaran front along the southern front.
