The Golden Seal of Pelegiad' (Englisc: Gylden inseglung of Pelegiad) is the highest military decoration awarded by the government of Brytene, given for extreme bravery in the face of overwhelming danger or mortal peril, usually when the soldiers' actions saved the lives of allied personnel or civilians of any nationality. Military personnel of all nations are theoretically eligible for this award, though typically it is only bestowed upon Brytisc soldiers and their allies.
History
The Golden Seal of Pelegiad is named after the legendary hero Pelegiad, whose symbol was the Valknut, the triple-knot which symbolises brotherhood and loyalty. His warband wore the Valknut as their badge, and the Valknut has long been a symbol of warriors in Brytene.
The current Order was created in 1903 during the First Great War to commemorate the bravery of Marine Hamish McCuillin, who gave his own life to prevent enemy soldiers from overrunning his position during the First Battle of St Joseph, allowing the rest of his platoon to retreat and regroup. Since then, it has been awarded to 373 individuals, 239 of them posthumously.
Design
The Golden Seal of Pelegiad is represented by a valknut made of 24-carat gold, suspended from a ribbon of white silk with scarlet bars to either side.
