Soraya bint Qaid ar-Ruweyni (Gharbaic: ثریا بنت قید الروینی, Transliteration: Sorayâ bint Qāʾid al-Ruwaini, born 17 November 1993) is a Fahrani noblewoman, socialite, and fashion model most famous for her status as the childhood friend and close personal confidante to the Eidrusid pretender Hazea bint Ismail Al Aidarus. She is the youngest child and only daughter of the late royalist Prime Minister Qaid ibn Fahd ar-Ruweyni and his wife, Parvin Golzari. She has been described in tabloids as "a worthy juxtaposition against and answer to the antiquated notion of the Ghantish beauty", a trend that began soon after her modeling debut in August of 2012.

Early Life

Soraya bint Qaid ar-Ruweyni was born at Imana to Qaid ibn Fahd ar-Ruweyni, a nobleman who briefly served as Prime Minister of Fahran from May 1991 until his voluntary resignation in August 1991, and the noblewoman and perfume magnate Parvin Golzari. Her father was of Gharib ancestry, claiming descent from the Ylameyr through the Ya'nadh tribe, while her mother had mixed Gharib, Kardish, and Ochrani heritage. She was delivered via natural birth at 10:02 PM on 17 Novemember, 1994. Her father composed her sharaba after catching a glimpse of the Pleiades, declaring her to possess "a beauty and luster surpassing that of the bright-burning Pleiades." She was noted as an especially vigorous baby, prone to crying loudly and with a strong grip. Soraya has an elder brother, Ismail ibn Qaid ar-Ruweyni, who currently claims the title Emir of Imana.

Soraya spent much of her childhood at her ancestral home at Imana, an estate that encompassed a modernized and refurbished mountain fastness as well as the surrounding villages and hinterlands. Imana is especially noted for the oppulence and splendor of its rose gardens, which were historically tended by the women of the House of Ruweyn. She also travelled alongside her family to Tel Imradhil frequently to visit with Ismail III, who numbered her father among his most trusted friends, and the rest of the royal family.

Relationships

Gregarious and pretty even as a child, Soraya was perceived to be an extremely desirable match among the liberal circles of the Eidrusid court-in-exile as she matured. In May of 2011, when Soraya was sixteen, a minor scandal occurred when Şirwan al-Mirani, a minor Kardish nobleman a few months her senior, kissed her unprompted following a dabke at the Palace of Teruel. As he had asked neither for his father's blessing nor given any serious suggestion of courtship, a scuffle ensued between him and Ismail ibn Qaid ar-Ruweyni, Soraya's protective elder brother. This incident drew the ire of both Rizgar al-Mirani, Şirwan's father, who demanded that both siblings be punished, and Prince Faisal, the Emir of Qa'tabah, who had organized the feast. It was only the intercession of the Emir of Khurais, who suggested that Ismail alone should be exiled, that prevented Soraya from being sent abroad to Uluujol or Ayvana. These events created a lasting enmity between the House of Ruweyn and Rizgar al-Mirani, and deepened the existing mutual dislike between the siblings and the Emir of Qa'tabah. Despite this, Soraya allegedly chastised her brother regarding his "brutish treatment" of Şirwan, "who was only a foolish boy."

In April of 2012, Rozerin Saleh-Zangani approached Soraya's guardian and surrogate mother, Sagal Warsame Ali, with intentions of arranging a formal courtship between her son Ra'ad ibn Ja'far Al Aidarus, a prince of the blood and second cousin of Hazea I, and Soraya. While Sagal Warsame Ali looked upon the match favorably, Soraya refused to consider a courtship or betrothal since either would entail separating from her adoptive sister Hazea, who was being sent to Ghant to completer her education and foil plots to nullify her betrothal to Serwan of Vardana. This spawned another minor scandal since Ra'ad was acknowledged by many liberal royalists as a more fit heir to Hazea than Crown Prince Yazid, the Emir of Ar-Subeilah and the mere suggestion of a courtship between the two of them had been an act of profound condescension. Ra'ad, behaving with his customary chivalry, had quieted the uproar by praising Soraya's "loyalty and constancy." As a result, the matter concluded cordially, with Ra'ad and Soraya becoming fast friends. Soraya commented afterward that it was "absurd that these emirs, princes, and dignitaries should presume to talk of the Iqār while hastening to shame women for exercising their right of refusal in pursuit of the higher virtues. I am not a broodmare or mark of status, however much they may wish it were so."
