Federal elections were held in Hennehouwe on 1 September 2017 to elect all 180 members of the 27th Chamber of Deputies.
Maharani Hema Kalyani (ಮಹರನಿ ಹೇಮ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣಿ; born ಜಯಂತಿ Jayanthi, 1785 - 4th April 1844), popularly referred to as Ko Jayanta in Pumil Nadu, and commonly known as Catherine of Karangi in Estmere, after her baptismal name. A member of the Ratta clan, she married Sir Horace Marlowe and nominally converted to Sotirianity, creating a scandal in both Karangi and Estmere. Despite this, after the death of her nephew Avinashrao Ratta she was placed on the throne of Karangi and ruled for 38 years (21 April 1806 – 4th April 1844).

The election was triggered by the Progressive Democratic Party's (VDP) withdrawal of support for Premier Michiel Hagan's centre-right government in June. The coalition, formed after the 2014 election, consisted of Hagan's National People's Party (NVP), the Agrarian–Farmer's Party (ABP), the Party for the Petois (PP), LIVE and the People's Party for Sotirian Democracy (VSD). It lacked a majority in the Chamber, and as such relied on support from the VDP throughout its three years of existence.
During her reign she became known as an avid reformer, keen to introduce Euclean advances in technology and science to Karangi, as well as improve the lives of ordinary people and the rights of women. Though fascinated by Estmerish culture in her youth, she became more conservative later in her reign and sought to protect Kannada people#Culture  and encourage the usage of the Kannada language in her court by Estmerish Resident and courtiers. She became posthumously known as 'Ko Jayanta' (meaning King Victory, with Jayanta being the masculine form of Jayanthi alluding to her ruling in her own right) as a result of her reforms and strong-will.

The Socialist Labour Party became the largest party for the first time since 2010, winning 49 seats on 23.2% of the vote. The VDP achieved the best result in its 28-year history, finishing in second place with 40 seats. The NVP received its worst result since 1978, winning 36 seats and falling to third place for the first time ever. The other big winner of the elections were the far-right Patriot's March, who gained six seats for a total of 16 seats in the Chamber. The Greens maintained their 2014 result of 11 seats, whilst the other represented parties acheived mix results. Provisional results were confirmed on the morning of 2 September, whilst the official results were certified on 6 September. The elected members were sworn in on 13 September.
By the time of her death in 1844 she was one of the richest people in the world, leaving an estimated $4 billion (adjusted for inflation) personal fortune to her children. Despite difficult relations with Estmere in her later reign, she was described by Richard Hope as "the most noble and magnificent ruler in Satria [...] ruling a kingdom that is run alike heaven upon earth."

Following the election, Hagan tendered his resignation as Premier, and Stadtholder Adriaan Wilhelm Paulus officially tasked SAP leader Rupert van Bleiswijk with forming a new government. The SAP reached a coalition agreement with the VDP to form a minority grand coalition, supported from the opposition by the PP and ABP. Van Bleiswijk was investiture as Premier following a vote in the Chamber on 5 October. The new government became the fifth grand coalition in the history of the Third Republic, and the first such consisting of centre-left and centre parties.

Hema Kalyani, the Maharani of Karangi.

During her reign she became known as an avid reformer, keen to introduce Euclean advances in technology and science to Karangi, as well as improve the lives of ordinary people and the rights of women. Though fascinated by Estmerish culture in her youth, she became more conservative later in her reign and sought to protect Pumil culture and encourage the usage of the Pumil language in her court by Estmerish residents and courtiers. She became posthumously known as 'Ko Jayanta' (meaning King Victory, with Jayanta being the masculine form of Jayanthi alluding to her ruling in her own right) as a result of her reforms and strong-will.
