Xiaodongese nationalism refers to various nationalist ideologies pertaining to Xiaodong. Whilst all forms of Xiaodongese nationalism support the cultural unity and the legitimacy of the Xiaodongese nation-state, there exists many subforms of Xiaodongese nationalism, including cultural, expansionist, statist ethnic or socialist in character.

Cultural
Cultural nationalism was the earliest form of Xiaodongese nationalism, developing in the early 1800's. Like many Xiaodongese nationalist ideologies, Xiaodongese cultural nationalist ideals were influenced by western Esquasrian theorists, and focused mainly on the notion on the shared cultural values of Xiaodongese speaking people's in eastern Borea including adherence to Taojiao, Buddhism and Confucianism, the Xiaodongese language and the great literary and poetic works written in the language and various other cultural features. Cultural Xiaodongese nationalism unlike other forms of Xiaodongese nationalism does not place importance on the existence of the Xiaodongese nation-state, but does emphasise a shared Xiaodongese culture that stretches from northern Xiaodong to Tinzhan.
Cultural Xiaodongese nationalism during the 1880's was merged with statist Xiaodongese nationalism to define the Xiaodongese nation. As Xiaodong at the time contained minorities such as the Kuochew and Tinzi people, cultural nationalism allowed for the assimilation of those people's into the Xiaodongese nation. Nevertheless, cultural Xiaodongese nationalists do stress that Xiaodong is a "nation of two people's" - the Kuochew and Xiaodongese, and only they can be considered citizens of the "Xiaodongese nation".
Statist
Whilst cultural Xiaodongese nationalism emphasised the cultural unity of the Xiaodongese peoples, statist Xiaodongese nationalism introduced in the 1860's emphasised the creation of a Xiaodongese nation-state. Statist Xiaodongese nationalism emphasised the supremacy of a centralised, unified Xiaodongese state over the individual, and placed the Xiaodongese state (personified by the Emperor in the 1800's and early 1900's) above all other entities. Statist Xiaodongese nationalism is anti-individualistic, chauvinistic and authotarian.
Statist Xiaodongese nationalism has been adapted since it was first theorised in the 1860's. Emphasis has moved from the construction of a nation-state (achieved in the Baiqiao Revolution) to the role of the nation-state in regards to Xiaodongese citizens relationship with the Xiaodongese state.
