Background
Election procedure
The Federal President of the National Consolidation Party is elected by an electoral college of 1,850 members, with the system having been introduced in 1996 by Edmund Blaurock. The electoral votes are allocated as such -
- 750 (40%) of votes to the NKP parliamentary party (MdB's).
- 550 (30%) of votes to NKP local representatives (MdL's) and MEPs
- 550 (305) of votes to ordinary NKP members.
As of 2022 the NUP has 244 members in the House of Deputies and 130 members of the House of Councillors (giving it 374 members of the parliamentary party) 101,463 regular members, 303 Landtag members and 42 MEP's (giving it 345 non-Bundestag representatives). If no candidate gets a majority in the first round federal parliamentarians vote on the two highest ranked candidates with who ever getting the highest vote winning. Candidates for president must sit in an elected body (the Bundestag, Landtags or Euclean Parliament) and be proposed for the leadership by 15 fellow NKP federal parliamentarians.
The vice-president of the party is nominated by the president-elect and then voted upon by federal parliamentarians. Traditionally the vice-president runs unopposed usually being from a different party faction.
