Senia (/ˈsɛniə/; Senian: Сения, Sienyja [ˈsʲɛnɨja]), officially the Republic of Senia (Senian: Речпубліка сеньска, Riečpublika sieńska), is a sovereign country in Auressia. It is landlocked between Tyrnica to the west, Pelemia to the east, X to the south-east and Lugesania to the south-west.

The earliest traces of human life in what is now Senia date back more than XX thousand years ago to the XX period. Though initially inhabited by both Samogusan and Ludic peoples, the Samogusans were largely pushed out and assimilated into Ludic culture throughout the centuries. The region was divided into a number of city states and duchies during the mediæval period. Although the Kingdom of Novogrod united much of what is now western Senia by the 17th century, the idea of a single Senian nation did not arise until later with the rise of Senian nationalism during the following centuries. During the 19th and into the early 20th century, the region of Senia was divided between several countries, with the Kingdom of Novogrod, Sulatia and Tyrnica controlling different parts of the Senian culturesphere. The Kingdom of Novogrod was generally aligned with Tyrnica, which continued into the First Great War, when Senia supplied Tyrnica with resources. The Senian Uprising which started in the Novogrod region in 1911 and spread into Tyrnican-controlled Cernia by 1912 is sometimes viewed as a reason for the conditional surrender of Tyrnica in 1913. Much of Senia was de-facto independent in 1913, with the nation’s independence being formalised in the Treaty of Vernan in 1915, as the area of the Kingdom of Novogrod was unified with Sulatian-controlled Belia and parts of Pelemian-controlled Cernia.

Though initially aligning itself closely with Pelemia which had helped it gain independence, relations between the countries soon soured, as Senia passed socialist reforms due to Sulatian influence.

Living standards within Senia vary greatly between regions as well as between urban areas and the countryside. The largest city in Senia is Belinsk, the national capital, with other major cities including Mogilno, Novogrod and Rovna. Belinsk and Mogilno have overlapping metropolitan areas which make up close to one fifth of the entire Senian population. In general, the region of Belia as well as the Southern Cresses and most parts of the Novogrod region are densely populated, while Cernia and northern Novogrod are populated much more sparsely.

Cuisine

The idea of a unified Senian cuisine dates back to the 19th century, when the culinary traditions of the regions were combined by Senian nationalists. Through nationalism and internal migration, regional differences in cuisine have largely been levelled, although some dishes are still often associated with individual regions or cities. There is some controversy regarding whether dishes belong to Senians or ethnic minorities (e.g. whether vodka was first invented by Lessians or Senians).

Sports

The most popular sport in Senia is association football. Although it had already been widely popular before, the construction of football fields at most schools and in most new housing developments since the mid-20th century have further elevated its role in Senian society. Most towns have at least one local football team, though football is also commonly played outside of such teams, particularly by children and youths. Furthermore, there are several dozen football teams which play in regional championships, as well as some playing professionally in the National Football League of Senia (Senian: Сеньска народовна ліга пілки ножний, Sieńska narodovna liga pilky nožnyj). The national league is often referred to as the “first league” (Senian: ліга перва, liga pierva).

Other sports with a significant presence in Senia include basketball, handball and boxing.
