The Battle of Dunakesi was battle between Syara and Ruvelka during the Zemplen War.
As part of Operation Aspis, the Syaran Commonality Armed Forces aimed to capture the city of Dunakesi and Balatonalmádi to create a massive encirclement within the Balatonalmádi District, destroying Ruvelkan forces in the region. Located just 80 kilometers from the border, Dunakesi was an early target for the Syarans and fell to the 9th Army under Colonel General Valentin Stavrik. Hoping to avoid a costly urban battle like the one raging in Albertirsa, Stavrik planned to enricle the city and the defending Ruvelkan forces within.
Ruvelkan forces within the city and the surrounding area fell under the command of Tibor Fehér. Although they outnumbered the Syarans 2 to 1, the still mobilizing Ruvelkan Imperial Army and the Ruvelkan Territorial Defense Forces were short on heavy weapons and armored vehicles. Fighting began on 15 September north of the city between the Ruvelkan 6th Army and the Syaran VIII Corps. After three days of successive fighting the Syarans ruptured the Ruvelkan lines, but a surprise Ruvelkan counterattack drove by the Syarans. Despite the temporary reprieve XI Corps broke through Ruvelkan forces to the south of the city, threatening to encircle the city the Ruvelkan forces nearby. On 20 September Fehér ordered Ruvelkan forces to withdraw further east to avoid capture. Over the course of the next three days Syaran forces steadily eroded the Ruvelkan position, leading to fierce fighting along the eastern outskirts of Dunakesi. On 24 September Syaran forces linked up to the east of the city, ending the battle.
The Syaran captured of Dunakesi paved the way for 9th Army to advance further into Ruvelka, eventually culminating in the Battle of Nyíradony.
