The event had blocked out the sun for a whole year due to the lingering effects of volcanic stratospheric aerosols. By the time the ashes have settled down, the years that went on by were known as "Anno Emergendi", and before the Diluvian Cataclysm would be "Anno Cadendum".

Kalrania is the primary setting of The Hole to Hide In, it is the 4th planet orbiting Sol, and one of the two currently known habitable planets within the system. It is a planet populated by civilizations with a mixture of varying technological levels, from the stone age to entire societies with both futuristic and fantasy themes, although the majority is still at a contemporary digital age.
