"38nde sporsmalet" (Literally The 38th question, or more accurately the question of the 38th) is a currently ongoing political debate in the absolute royal federation that arose about the 38th blalander regiment of the line that was raised a few year after the abolition of slavery in the ARF and the royal decree that made all species equal in the eyes of the federation.

The issue specifically was due to the 38th being raised from leopidottir men in Blaland and drew in recruits from all over the federation but not the leopidottir homeland. According to ancient tradition, the royal authorities swore not to raise up the men of the realm in regiments, something that had traditionally been respected and humans living there had to travel to another federal realm to take up arms if they so desired. However, with non-humans being able to join the royal guard, did some people toy with the idea of raising a regiment of leopidottir. This came to fruition when Harald flowersmile a son of an aristocratic family that had been sent to study abroad in the royal military academy in blaland instead of going home to marry as his mother had desired of him instead had managed to strike up a friendship with the ducal son of blaland and the two got permission of the local military to raise a regiment of male leopidottir.

This caused an issue however as he was betrothed to the lady Sugarleaf as her third husband. Similarly, did other matriarchs of the leopidottir complain that this would take husbands away from their marriages as their species as a whole is notoriously overrepresented in the female gender with only about 1 in 10 children being born a male. Some even argued that this broke against royal decree that no man should be recruited from their homeland. This argument however lost it’s steam quickly as the 38th had been very stringent in only taking in recruits from leopidottir that resided in other realms permanently.

Instead, the lady Sugarleaf brought a case before the royal court to make by decree her species banned from serving in the armed forces of the high king. A move that caused her a lot of foes in the royal court, especially did the young aristocrat Ulf auf Helgersback, an elf by birth start a campaign where he argued against this proposal openly in court refusing to give any ground that any species in the federation should have any decree issued against them limiting their rights compared to other species as a whole.

Internal supporters

The side that is for the proposed ban is often backed by Non-Scanderan aristocrats that wish to see minority rights advocated in the federation, most of the leopidottir aristocracy and more traditionalist elements back the move. Similarly some more xenophobic and human purity elements of society also galvanised behind the move but such a movement tends to be less vocal in why even if outspoken people still exist in their ranks.

Internal opposition

Opposing the ban is most of the military establishment, Imerians in favour of Scanderianisation and of course also more liberal elements that wishes to see non-humans further integrated into the social order and staunchly opposes any move to segregate between federal subjects beyond traditional gender roles and class differences.
