The First Spouse of the People's Republic of Namor (Намора Имингука Теюнипеилон tr. Namora Iminguka Teyunipeilon) is an informal title for the spouse of the President-General of Namor. While every President-General of Namor has had a spouse, the title "First Spouse" was first popularized during the presidency of Antelope Gelai. The term First Lady was also widely used until the NMR 2350s, when Fu Shu, husband of Alicia Wolf, became the first male spouse of the President-General.
Role
The First Spouse is not mentioned in the Constitution of Namor. Thus, his or her duties are entirely ceremonial. However, First Spouses have played a significant role in promoting the President-General's image.
Despite their lack of actual power, some First Spouses were very politically active while others maintained a low profile. Chi Sangmei, wife of Antelope Yunglang, was a political activist who fought for the Liberationists in the Namorese Civil War; after the war, she served as a deputy in the Central Council and advocated for women's rights. Yi Junchang, wife of Kiang Su, advised the Green Youth Organization during the Green Fever. After the NMR 2315 Namorese political crisis, she was accused of conspiring with her husband to seize power and charged with treason, but was later acquitted due to insufficient evidence to support the charge. Chen Mei, wife of Antelope Gelai, traveled the country to raise support for the President-General's reforms.
