Otomarca, officially the Commonwealth of Otomarca is a country in coastal western Belisaria, north of the Bight of Gelonia. It is bordered by Lyncanestria, Vannois, and Casambre to the south, Aldanglea and Veldia to the north, and Ostrozava and Schaumberg to the east. It is in close proximity to both Arthurista and the Latin territory of Sasora, both situated to Otomarca's west in the Bight of Gelonia.

Historically, Otomarca consisted of several northern border marches of the Holy Audonian Empire under the authority of the Archmargrave of Otomarca, before it became the independent Kingdom of Otomarca in the early 1800's with the collapse of Audonian imperial authority. The ensuing century and a half were tumultuous times, but in the middle of the 20th century the country reemerged in its current form as a devolved constitutional monarchy, with the main mandate for governance in the hands of a number of populist, socialist and other leftist political parties and factions.

Otomarca is a multiethnic and multilingual realm. In its western half, a number of Latinate languages are spoken, with greatest social and legal prominence and prestige given to the Eonese tongue that has historically been the language of the majority and the political and social elite. However, in the western half of the country, Kanketan and Calizan are both found, especially in the southern regions abutting the Audonian-speaking realms. In the east, the Ludic language of Allamunnic is spoken widely, to an extent that Allamunnic enjoys a sort of co-official status with Eonese.

Etymology

"Otomarca" is a corruption of the original name of the northern border realms of the Holy Audonian Empire; when Ermenegildu I was placed in command of the northern marches of the Empire, there were eight such marches, and eight immediate subordinates to the new Archmargrave; thus, they were the lord of the Eight Marches ("Octa Marchas" in Latin). Over the centuries, this was gradually corrupted into "Otxo Marchas", then "Otxo Marcas", and eventually "Oto Marcas". By the time the country had solidified into a single realm with an identity distinct from the Audon-speaking components of the Holy Audonian Empire, the name had settled into its current form.
