The Mining Federation is a mega-corporation consisting of networks of miners who harvest and control natural resources throughout the Talin Galaxy. The Mining Federation has large influence and power over the Outer Band and Tampina Arm -- specifically its overspace lanes. Headquartered on the planet Sunnoth and largely administered by the Coscads, the Federation's early strongholds included planets with fuels vital to overspace travel. By 3000 AHT, the Mining Federation had dominated billions of young, nameless, metal-rich planets in the spiral arms of the galaxy.

The Mining Federation is controlled through the workings of many corporate entities on several planets. It has grown to ward so much influence that it has a delegation in the Galactic Union, and its representation allows for loosened regulations on its practices. The Federation has been known to utilize slave labor on its planets outside Union jurisdiction, and many of its extraction practices have been extremely harmful to planetary environments. The Mining Federation would often force planets into exclusive contracts which, in several circumstances, gave them the ability to blockade planets and control system politics. The Mining Federation enforces security in their space with their own military consisting of wardroids.
