A Galunt-class transport

A starship, sometimes referred to as a spaceship or simply a ship, is a manned vehicle used for traveling in realspace or overspace throughout the Talin Galaxy. Dating back thousands of years, the earliest starships transported spacers to new worlds through cryogenic freezing processes. Upon the invention of the overdrive, ships equipped with them could travel faster than light by entering overspace, drastically reducing the journey times between two solar systems.

Types

Starships can generally be divided into three categories of functionality.

Warships

Warships are a type of starship utilized in warfare. There are various types, including cruisers, capital ships, troop transports, assault ships, and patrol ships. The following are examples:

Freighter

Freighters are used for hauling cargo from one place to another. Although light freighters can usually hold their own in combat against other fighter craft, larger vessels, such as bulk freighters tend to be less capable. A shuttle is used to transport personnel and cargo through space, often from one starship to another or from a ship to a planetary body. The following are examples:

Space stations are artificial structures in space. Some are stationed independently in deep space or even in nebulas. Many stations are capable of being in orbit of astronomical objects. The following are examples:

Starfighters, also referred to as fighters, are small and maneuverable spacecraft designed for combat in the atmosphere or space. Certain models of bombers, gunships, transports, light freighters, shuttles, trainers, and atmospheric fighters can be considered starfighters as well, and often fulfill many of the same functions.
