The New Akiba Defence Force (Māoru: Te Ope Kātua o Aotearoa, "Line of Defence of New Akiba"/Nihhonese: 新アキバ軍, "Army of New Akiba") consists of three services: the New Akiba Army, the Royal New Akiba Air Force and the Royal New Akiba Navy; and is commanded and headed by the Chief of Defence Force (CDF).

As of 2018 the Commander-in-Chief of the NADF, General Kageyama Yuzuru, Governor-General of New Akiba, exercises power on the advice of the Minister of Defence, Hori Hanare, under the Defence Act 1990. Air Marshal Horris Short took over as Chief of Defence Force on 1 July 2018.

New Akiba's armed forces have three defence-policy objectives:

  • to defend New Zealand against low-level threats
  • to contribute to regional security
  • to play a part in global security efforts

New Akiba regards its own national defence needs as modest, due to its geographical isolation and its ongoing conflict with its northern neighbor, Ingelmia. New Akiba forms a security treaty with Zanarkand and the United Kingdom under the ZANUK Security Treaty.
