The House Rohan is a major political dynasty from Anglaland in Brytene. They are one of the oldest houses in Brytene, and 21 out of the 41 monarchs since the first founding of the Kingdom of Anglaland have been of House Rohan.
History
House Rohan was founded by Adalwulf of Rohan somewhere around 320AD, as attested by the inscription on stones found in Uttermoor. His descendant, Torsten of Rohan, was one of the many petty chieftains loyal to Hengist and Horsa when they founded the Kingdom of Brytene. Torsten was granted funds to build a hillfort on the site of present-day Eorlingas Holdfast in western Anglaland.
House Rohan became rich thanks to the fertile farmland of their area, maintaining powerful warbands to keep the invading Celti at bay, and their forces were crucial in the Battle of the Stones, when the Saxones defeated the assembled forces of the Celti under their High King Cadwyg Cadarn, ending Celti power in Anglaland.
Upon the death of Queen Brenna II in 691AD, the line of Hengist and Horsa was extinguished. At a grand moot at Castle Oakhall, Cnut Rohan was elected as King of Brytene. His line ruled for more than six centuries, until the death of King Aelle I at the Siege of Lundene.
House Rohan came to the throne again with the coronation of King Gerlad I in 1629, following the Brytisc Civil War in which Queen Leila I was deposed as monarch, partly due to dissatisfaction following her signing of the Drumhead Treaty with the Empire of Castarcia.
House Rohan ruled until the signing of the Great Charter of Brytene bought an end to the hereditary monarchy. King Uhtred X of House Rohan was the last Rohan monarch of the direct line, dying in 1786 to be replaced by King Steophen I, the first elected monarch of Brytene.
Since then there has been one monarch from the House Rohan, King Uhtred XI, who was elected in 1832 and ruled until his death in 1894.
Properties and value
The name of Rohan is still closely associated with the institution and the former monarchy. The flag of Anglaland Canton still bears the white stag of Rohan.
The family still own several maple plantations throughout Anglaland and the other cantons, and are one of the largest competitors in Brytene's maple syrup trade.
Members
Current members of the family include Folctoga Brynja Rohan, her husband Jacques Rohan, their son Eardwulf Rohan, their daughter Cassandra Rohan, and Cassandra's husband Gjelborn Rohan.
