The International Chess Federation, sometimes referred to by its Ruvelkan acronym NSS (Nemzetközi Sakkszövetség), is an international organization based in Aszód that connects national chess federations and operates as the governing body for all international chess events. It was founded on 11 February 1920 in Ruvelka and utilizes a universal ranking system to compare and rate players within Tyran.
Role
The primary function of the International Chess Federation is organizing the Tyran Chess Championship since 1940; it also organizes the championships for women, juniors, seniors, and the disabled where relevant. The other major event organized by the NSS is the Tyran Chess Olympiad, a biennial national team tournament.
The NSS is also recognized by the Tyran Olympic Committee as the supreme body for the organization of chess at global and continental stages. Most tournaments are not overseen directly by the NSS, but are generally observed so that they properly follow rules and regulations. As such, the organization defines the rules of chess for individual games and for conduct at the international level as well as awarding titles for achievement in competitive play.
