The Christian Democratic League (Littish: Kristendemokratisk Forbund, KF) is a christian-democratic conservative-liberal political party in Littland. It is the largest party by both membership and seats in the Folkekammer (Littish parliament). Originally two different parties, the Christian People's Party and Farmers Union, after a merger in 1929 the KF has been the main party of the Littish centre-right.
History
Early History
Originally founded as the Christian People's Party in 1878 following the signing of the Helge Constitution, the party managed through the Littish Civil War by distancing itself from the old regime and ideas of monarchy. Following the war, the party won 67 seat in the new Folkekammer in the 1913 Littish parliamentary elections and solidified its position as the main Christian conservative party of the new Republic.
Following the parliamentary success of the Farmers Union in the 1928 Littish parliamentary election, the leadership of the Christian People's Party started negotiations with the Farmers Union to hopefully integrate the two parties to further promote their shared beliefs. The main topic of discussion was a proposed land reform the Christian People's Party had pushed for during the 1928 election campaign, as the Farmers Union saw it as a "dysfunctional plan". The land reform was partially reworked in shared cooperation following an agreement that the Farmers Union and Christian People's Party would merge.
On 1 September 1929, the Christian Democratic League was founded. Many considered it the Christian People's Party simply absorbing the Farmers Union, as many of its old imagery, structures, policies and MFs remained intact. The Christian Democratic League would adopt more agrarian policies and increase future farming subsidies in the following years however, showing some change did indeed occur following the merger.
