The 97th Tofino Film Festival, also known as the 97th Pine Awards and the 70th Tofino International Film Festival, was held from September 6-13th, 2023. Chapuis and Contagious led the field of nominations with 10 awards each, with Chapuis winning 4 including Best Picture, Best Director for Giovanni Tanner, Best Supporting Actor for Andrew Green, and Best Sound Editing. Contagious won Best Visual Effects. Monearde won 4 awards, including Best Actor for Leonida Mellone, Best Original Score, Best Makeup, and Best Costume Design. Khooné won 3 awards, including Best Actress for Aycan Kashani. Mélanie Bosch won Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Harp Fell Silent, which also won Best Adapted Screenplay. Other winners included String of Hysteric Preposterousness, Admiring It All, Gadget, Saktos, Death Comes Three Times Today, and Ranger.
The Pine Awards Broadcast on September 13th was hosted by Chase Russell and Bélise Asselineau. Presenters for the awards included Weston Sharpe, Fae Fonnend, Teresa Warner, Anthony Avi-Davis, Alexander Vázquez, and Darren Navicia. Musical acts were performed by Appia and Kaiti Tassouli, the latter of whom sang the Best Original Song winner Little Steps from the Best Musical Feature winner Admiring It All.
