Biography

Early Life & Education

Sofya Elaen Rudulf was born on October 29th, 1968 at Svaartaron Memorial Hospital in Leifspurt, Jormundea, to Junn and Erika Rudulf, the second child of the working-middle class couple. Junn worked as a dockworker at the time of Sofya's birth, while Erika worked as a nurse. Sofya was the Rudulfs' second child, having an elder brother, Maark (b. 1965), and a younger brother, Kyl (b. 1970).

Sofya enjoyed a pleasant enough childhood; the family briefly faced adversity when Junn was injured on the job, but due to his membership in the Fellowship of Ottonian Teamsters, the family was able to gain support from his fellows and make it through the tough times.

Sofya was noted as a bright and helpful young lady, always willing to go out of her way to help others. Her academic excellence made it possible for her to gain entrance to the Leifspurt College campus of the Jormundea State University system in 1986. There, Sofya pursued a double major, combining a study of sociology with the pursuit of a Bachelor of Laws degree. During this time, she also met Jenna Haller, who she began a romantic relationship with.

Graduating in 1990 amid the paranoid atmosphere of the Jaal regime, Rudulf went to work assisting the FOT, which her elder brother Maark had joined when he followed his father into his trade.

Early Career

In the early 1990's, labor activists were frequently targeted by the Federal Guard on the orders of Premier Eddard Jaal as political dissidents. As a result, the FOT frequently found itself losing leaders to arrest, meaning that Sofya, by necessity, moved up the ranks quickly, trying to keep the union functional despite government pressure. During this time, she and Jenna Haller also wed.

Where possible, she utilized her knowledge of the legal system to stall and frustrate attempts at crackdowns on union activity and labor organization in general, also helping to coordinate protests and even strikes with other unions in Jormundea. For her troubles, Sofya herself was arrested in 1997.

Release and Political Career

When Jaal was removed from power and executed in 1999, Rudulf was among those political prisoners released by the leaders of the coup against Jaal. Rudulf wasted little time in reentering the fray; as corrupt Jaal-regime officials were removed, new leaders were needed to fill the vacuum. Rudulf ran for the position of Administrator of Leifspurt Prefecture in 2001, winning a narrow race. She was generally well-regarded as a Prefect, and she won reelection twice, finally stepping down in 2010 to move onto higher office.

In the 2009 campaign, Rudulf for the first time ran in a primary against candidates from the other parties that made up the now-resolidifying Popular Front. She was able to win the coalition's nod as their candidate for Governor of the Province of Kaepenhulm, and Rudulf was able to win an outright majority in the 2009 election, dispatching both Federalist and National Front opponents without the need for a runoff. She took office in 2010.

Rudulf would serve two terms as the Governor of Kaepenhulm, working closely with state authorities, as well as the Federalist/Popular Front coalition in the Federal government to rebuild the public support systems in Kaepenhulm, helping to rebuild and expand the welfare state and policies designed to facilitate employee ownership of businesses. During her two terms in office, Kaepenhulm's economy was generally prosperous, and the province was considered to be well run. She left office at the end of 2018 generally well-regarded at both a local and national level, and with her sights set on still higher office, encouraged by compatriots in the Labor Party and, more broadly, the Popular Front.

Run for Premiership

In late 2018, with Andrik U'Daanyl's term as Premier nearing its end, Popular Front leadership tapped Rudulf as their candidate for the Premiership.

Personal Life

Rudulf is openly gay, and married. During her time at the University of Trynt, Sofya met Jenna Haller, a fellow student, studying a pre-law curriculum, and the two embarked on a romantic relationship beginning in 1986. The two married in 1995.

Rudulf, as well as the rest of her family, are practicing Tyrrians.
