Arman Boghossian HH (Արման Արեկ Բոգհոսսիան; born 12 January 1934) is a Vardanan political leader, military, general, and statesman who served an integral role in the transition from the First Republic of Vardana to the Second Republic.
Boghossian, the nephew of Arek Boghossian, first rose to prominence as a military officer and by virtue of his 1962 marriage to Maria Najaryan – daughter of then Paramount Leader Samuel Najaryan. He continued an active role in the military, and served in a variety of minor government roles throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s. His first public office was as military Governor of Bayazet from 1975 to 1980. Boghossian's role grew by 1980, when he was appointed President of the National Convention and gradually took a greater role in Najaryan's government. By 1981, Boghossian was expected to be named Najaryan's heir, but was instead appointed President of the Regency in Najaryan's will, and tasked with the transition to the restoration of the monarchy.
As President of the Regency, Boghossian instead rejected the restoration of the monarchy, and initiated an autocoup. The coup resulted in a purge of the government, military, and series of battles between forces loyal to Boghossian and monarchists. Boghossian remained in the role of President of the Regency during the following constitutional convention, and became the only individual to received the state honor of Father of the Republic. Boghossian remains one of the most popular figures in Vardana.
Boghossian's continued to play an active role in Vardanan politics into the Second Republic and was appointed to the Directory representing Bayazet. He served as Director for Bayazet from 1985 until 1996, where he clashed with members of Hravart and the Radical Party over the creation of office of First Secretary. In 1998, Boghossian was elected Governor of Bayazet, serving until his retirement from politics in 2006. From 2006 to 2017, Boghossian stayed out of the public eye, and only made public appearances for major state celebrations. In 2017, Boghossian announced he was coming out of retirement and was exploring a return to political life, later joining the 11 July Club. In 2020, he ran for Directory from Bayazet, and despite winning the first round of voting did not earn a seat on the directory due to the controversial cancellation of the second round of voting. Boghossian is currently running in the 2021 special election to fill the vacant seat from Bayazet.
