The flag of Midrasia consists of nine vertical stripes of equal width of burgundy and white. A variant of the flag consisting of a horizontal bicolour of burgundy and white also exists and is interchangeable with the main ensign. The flag were adopted in 1624 following the Midrasian Civil War however was not officially until after the Midrasian Revolution when the primary flag was defined within the constitution as the official flag of Midrasia whilst the second is regarded as the Republican banner which holds political significance related to the revolution. The banner was originally used during the revolution by the supporters of democratic assembly. Legend has it that the flag was created when prominent democrat Marceius de Vilonde was dining with other revolutionaries when he heard of the flight of the dictator Jean-Jacques Vaillancourt from the capital. Upon hearing the news, Marceius accidentally spilt his wine over the table cloth, staining one side. Marceius then proceeded to use the cloth as a banner, marching through the streets, gathering support for the democratic cause.
