House Eist is a Norumbian royal house of Belisarian origin and currently the reigning house of the Kingdom of Gristol and a co-ruling house of Gristol-Serkonos. The royal house was traces their origin as a major Nordic clan from the coastal regions of modern-day Aureumterra in northern Belisaria. Clan Eist later settled in the northeast Norumbian coast in xxxx, following their expulsion from their lands by the Åltæden conquest led by Cnut I. After landing in modern-day city of Griswald, the clan would quickly expand their territories, incorporating indigenous as well as Audonic and Kamryker polities under their banner. In xxxx, Clan Chief Griswald Eist styled himself as King, leading to the formation of the Kingdom of Gristol and the capital city would be named after him following his death in xxxx. The House would begin an uninterrupted reign for centuries, contending with the confederation of Kahnawà꞉ke tribes known to the Gristolians as the Atiwandaronk to the country's western flank. The Gristo-Serkonan Wars of the 1300's were the tumultuous times for the Kingdom, having to contend with the Kahnawà꞉ke tribes for resources.
The reign of House Eist would be interrupted in 1557 when the War of the Gristolian Succession erupted between two competing claimants to the throne. The Kingdom of Gristol would be embroiled in a three-year war, resulting in a mutual exhaustion and a negotiated peace following the deaths of the two claimants. The throne would be inherited by Haakon the Mediator, the Duke of Drachten. The modern line of House Eist would descend from Haakon the Mediator.
In 18XX, following years of negotiations between the two Norumbian governments, Harald IV signed the Oath of Union, forming the United Kingdom of Gristol-Serkonos. House Eist would share co-ruling responsibilities with an elected Grand Chief of the League of Serkonos. House Eist today is headed by Anna I Eist, who is also the Queen of Gristol and the Co-Monarch of the United Kingdom.

Under the Kingdom of Gristol's Protocols on Succession, the decedents of Queen Alyssa, consort to King Aksel Eist, provide the line of succession. The Protocols of Sucession provide that heirs of the body, or legitimate born children, are eligible to succeed to the throne. The "Heirs of the body" is defined in the Protocols as being absolute primogeniture in which sex is irrelevant for inheritance and the oldest surviving child without regard to sex inherits the throne.
