Line of succession to the Sydalene throne

Jump to navigation Jump to search

Sydalon uses the system of absolute primogeniture in accordance with house law first established in 1631. Succession dictates that to be eligible, a dynast must practice Fabrian Catholicism. Dynasts who marry without the express consent of the reigning Monarch are excluded from succession, as are any of their descendants. Once succeeding to the throne, a Monarch is anointed 30 days later and takes an oath before peers, government ministers, members of the clergy, and the citizenry at-large.

Guilhemite

The Guilhemite claim to the throne is based on the belief that the deposition of William VII & I and subsequent disclaimer of then John, Prince of Petra was not legally valid due to his minority. Proponents of this line assert that the descendants of King William VII are the legitimate monarchs of Sydalon ahead of the current line of Queen Elissa IV. The Guilhemite claim was mostly recently strongly during the 1972 Sydalene Succession Crisis. Unlike succession in Garza, Sydalene succession of the Guilhemite claim follows gender-neutral succession practices; the Guilhemite claim remains in union with the Crown of Garza. The current pretender to this line is William II of Garza; his heir apparent is John, Prince of Gavera, whose heir presumptive is Princess Alara of Garza.
