The 1981 Besmenian federal election was held in Besmenia on September 6, 1981, to elect the 17th Federal Chamber.
After the snap election, the previous incumbent minority government of the Free Besmenian Citizen's Party (FBBP) and the Social Democratic Union (SDU) led by Prime Minister Martin Beiter returned with a majority and continued in office. The election to the 17th Federal Chamber would originally have taken place in January 1984.
Background
In the 1981 federal election, the Free Besmenian Citizen's Party (FBBP) became the strongest force with 31.2% of the vote, followed by the Besmenian People's Party (BVP) with 28.4% and the Social Democratic Union (SDU) with 16.1%. While the FBBP was able to gain votes, the BVP and SDU lost a significant number of votes.
