Government formation

With the entry of the GPB, neither a new BVP-BRP coalition (188 seats) nor a FBBP-SDU coalition (213 seats) achieved the required majority of 214 seats in the Federal Chamber. Only an FBBP-BVP coalition (285 seats) would have had a governable majority in parliament. There were also attempts by the BVP to form a BVP-BRP minority government with the tolerance of the conservative GPB, or to form a BVP-BRP-GPB coalition (214 seats). However, the GPB announced that it would not work with or support the right-wing populist BRP.
