Ottobrzég (lit. 'Otto's town'; Weranic: Ottoburg) is a municipality in Ostry, with a population of 1,130. Located on the southern windward coast of the island, the town is known for its mid-19th century church.
History
Ottobrzég was originally founded around the 18th century as a community of Weranic settlers to Ostry, spurred by land grants provided by the Weranic government in an attempt to colonize the island, as was named after Otto IX, King of Cislania from 1642 to 1686. By the late 1700s, Ottobrzég emerged as an economic centre in eastern Ostry, until the Weranic Revolution.
Geography
Ottobrzég comprises 17 km2, making it the second-smallest municipality of Ostry. It is connected by the Ostric Highway to Ambrzëch to the north and Tónkowò to the south.
