Ambrzëch (Weranic: Ambüch) is a municipality in Ostry, with a population of 1,103. Located on the northern windward coast of the island, the town is almost entirely employed within the fishing industry.
History
Although settlement around Ambrzëch dates back as far as the 10th century, the town itself was officially incorporated in 1826, as a settlement funded by Weranic settlers driven to Ostry due to affordable land grants. The town has since its founding been supported by the fishing industry, being site to the Szmit Fishing Company since 1908. The village suffered one of the deadliest explosions in Ostric history, when a docked navel vessel exploded in 1931, killing twenty.
Geography
Ambrzëch comprises 24 km2, making it the fifth-largest municipality of Ostry. It is connected by the Ostric Highway to Gòłosztrąd to the north and Ottobrzég to the south.
