Wiãcórk (Weranic: Fischerstadt) is a municipality in Ostry, with a population of 1,527. It is located south of the capital of Eriksztadt, on the southern side of the island. It is considered the oldest community on the island, and an important centre of Ostric culture.
History
Wiãcórk was founded as a fishing outport around c. 800, making it the first recorded Slavic settlement on Ostry. Throughout the medieval and early modern period, Wiãcórk remained a major settlement alongside Roztoka, until the development of the western side of the island in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 2002, the town designated its marina, built in 1878, as a Heritage Monument.
Geography
Wiãcórk comprises 18 km2, making it the third-smallest municipality of Ostry. It is connected by the Ostric Highway to Nowa Łãka to the west and Tónkowò to the north.
