The Armed Forces of Vozh (Vozhsk: Uzbrejena sille Vozha) are the military forces of the United Kingdoms of Vozh. The High King is Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, appointing the Commissar of Defense. Although the Prime Minister has constitutional powers to formulate military policy in collaboration with the Defense Commissar, this is in practice done by Her Most Catholic Majesty, Elisaveta II. The Unification of Command Act of 2085 merged the then-independent Commissariats of the Army, Navy, and National Guard into a single ministry, as well as making the Aerospace Forces an independent branch from the Navy.
History
The modern Vozhsk armed forces can trace their heritage to the Vozhsk tribal armies such as that of Clan Vyatich. These fierce warriors were feared by the neighbouring Nysan peoples, and secured the Vyatichi a dominant position in Northern Nysa.
Later, after the colonization of Nysa by the Atmoran Empire, Vozhsk tribal levies, under the command of Atmoran colonial officers, shouldered some of the responsibility for defending their homeland from potential threats to the west. The most famous of these units was the "Empress' Own VII Colonial Regiment" raised from the Zlitsani clan in the 19th century. It saw action in numerous conflicts during the last decades of Atmoran rule.
During the Vozhsk Rebellion, the modern Vozhsk military was mustered via the merger of several civilian militias into the "National Army of the Democratic Federative Republic of Vozh". After the armistice and dissolution of the republic, its land component was renamed to the "National Army of the United Kingdoms of Vozh".
During a conflict between the then-ruling military junta, Committee for Vozhsk Sanation and Salvation and the Vozhsk monarchy, the military was split among itself. While initially the stronger of the two forces, several days into the conflict increasing numbers of the Junta forces defected to the Royalist forces, led by the then-newly formed Royal Guard. The outcome of this war saw a return to parliamentary rule for the next seven decades, as well as the warming of relations with Atmora and the absorption of the Gendarmerie into the Royal Guard.
Structure
The Armed Forces are divided into four branches; the National Army, responsible for land defense, the Royal Navy, responsible for maritime defense as well as deep space traders and colonies, the Aerospace Forces, responsible for airspace and near-Earth defense and the missile troops, and the Royal Guard, responsible for both military and civil policing, national security, border patrol, and rapid response. Most Vozhsk special forces units also fall under the jurisdiction of the latter three branches.
Military Districts
During peace time, the Vozhsk military is divided into two military districts with different geographic areas of responsibility; the Maritime District, responsible for the Islands and coastal regions of the country, and the Southern District, responsible for the bulk of the country's mainland.
