Format and appearance
Erkunder is a magazine of general interest in popular sciences, with its topics ranging from current research and applied sciences to geography, nature, history, human geography, politics and world culture. Special editions of Erkunder feature one major topic or focus on an individual, epoch and activity. Additionally, local editions of the Erkunder magazine feature distinctive minor articles or columns by its editors relevant to the region in order to appeal to their audiences.
The magazine is recognized by its iconic and well-known design, featuring the use of photography dramatic in appearance, encased in a thick yellow square-bound format on the magazine's cover, which has since been adopted as part of the academy's official logo in 1994.
