FFA Chamions Cup 4

The FFA Champions Cup is a men's association football tournament within Aeia. The event organised by the Football Federation of Aeia was established in 2016 as a tournament for the the league champions, runners up and in some cases 3rd place teams in Aeian domestic football. The tournament generally involves a two round structure wherein teams first face off in groups of 4 teams, with the top two teams in each group progressing to the knockout stage. This has been the case in ever edition of the tournament, expect for the first which was a straight knockout tournament. Throughout the competition, teams play each other twice, except for the final which is only one game. Draws in the knockout stage are decided first with extra-time and if needed a penalty shootout. The final of the first edition took place at the Stade Nationale in Lotrič and was won by the Midrasian team Olympique de Lotrique. So far a Midrasian team has successfully reached the final in each edition of the tournament.

Formation

With the onset of the Twenty-first Century there was a growing desire by domestic football teams for the creation of a so-called world 'super league' which would feature the most successful clubs from across all of Aeia. With continental championships such as the Asuran League coming to be dominated by a select number of teams greater pressure was placed on the Football Federation of Aeia to create a world club tournament to create greater competition.

In 2013 an agreement was reached for the creation of a world club knockout competition. Initially the tournament was marketed as the 'Pro Cup' with a friendly tournament under the same name being organised as a pilot for the new competition. By 2016 however, the tournament had been rebranded to the 'Champions Cup'. Under the new system, the top 1 to 3 teams within a nation's domestic league will qualify for the tournament and its qualifying rounds depending on a nation's FFA coefficient. Teams ranked 2nd to 6th may qualify for their continental compeititions based on their league coefficient.
