Location of Navack

Navack (Newreyan pronunciation /ˈnævæk/; Navish Navak pronounced /nɑ:vɑk/), officially the United Republic of Navack is a sovereign state whose territory comprises the central portion of the Lhedwinic archipelago plus the remote archipelago of Sturhlund. Navack has a total area of 115.252.000 square kilometres and a population of 15.705.768 (as of January 2016). The country shares border to the north with Andmark and Torland, Crylante to the south, and the Lhedwinic strait to the east, with Newrey on the other side. The Navish population is mostly located on the southern most part of the country, where some of the most important cities in Navack can be found. The capital and biggest city is Berke. Other important urban areas are Brestrand, Hudenholm, Høulding and Voyens.

North Asuran peoples have inhabited Navack since prehistoric times, emerging into history as the Mænish Tribes (Senterstammer), the Sodish Tribes (Sødstammer), the Fiskish Tribes (Fiskstammer), and the Andish. Central-eastern Navack is predominantly agricultural, while the north is heavily forested. Today, Navack is a federative presidential republic, with a president, elected every four years, as head of state and government, like its Lhedwinic neighbors. Legislative power is vested in the 213-member bicameral congress. Executive power is exercised by the government chaired by the president, recently elected Helle Schanke. Navack is a federative state, currently divided into 12 states, 180 municipalities, and the oversea territories of Sturhlund.

The Navish state was poperly unified in 847 CE, following the Trinity War. The unification was followed by the crowning of the Berkish King Olaf I, whom became known as the Unifier. On the late 10th century, Navack had developed enough sailing technology to allow more effective raids over mainland Asura. Throughout the 11th century, the raids caused several conflicts of the Navish crown against many smaller kingdoms in modern day Newrey, Cuirpthe, Tricaldia and Wradhia. By the end of the 16th century, Navack had succesfully annexated Rigjord to its domain. In 1624, Navack entered in a personal alliance with the Republic of Nausikaa, forming the Navo-Nausikaan Commonweatlh. Shortly after that, Andmark was politically drawn into the alliance, thus leading to the official creation of the United Kingdom of Lhedwin. The Grand Duchy of Lilledel followed the Andmarkish steps, while Torland was annexated after the 1750 Torlandic War. Navack became an independent nation in 1900 after the Millennial Peace. However, the recently re-established monarchy was soon deployed by the Republican Revolution of 1921.

Navack is actively part of the Congress of Nations, Cyningburgh Pact for International Security, Commonwealth of Democratic Nations and the Aeian Community. The country a founder member of the Lhedwinic Council, headquarted in Berke. Navack is often ranked as one of the best countries to live in. The country ranks as the 2nd highest GDP per capita and is a thriving hub for education, quality of life and equality. Navack is considered a middle power in Asura, with greater influence in Lhedwin and North Asura.

History

Pre-Unification Period

A Sødish rune stone found by archeologists near the Krystalldam Lake, a few kilometers of Thise. The stone is dated from around 1200 BCE.

Historians estimate that proto-Lhediwinic people first occupied current Navish territory around the 10th century BCE. The oldest human found, however, was located a few miles north of Brautarholt, buried at the bottom of the Andish Mountain range in the state of Andiland, dating back to the 17th BCE. It is estimated by historians that by 90 CE, there were approximately 35,000 people who lived in Navack, divided over more than 20 smaller tribes.

Despite the elevated number of early tribes, the central-Lhedwinic tribes started to concentrate themselves into bigger communities, giving birth to what is known nowadays as the central-Lhedwinic conglomerates: the Mænish Tribes (Senterstammer), the Sodish Tribes (Sødstammer), the Fiskish Tribes (Fiskstammer), and the Andish. Each group of tribes had their own culture and way of living. The Mænish Tribes lived between the Lilla river and the Hvit river, stretching their domain all the way to what is today the Navish border with Andmark and Torland. The Sodish Tribes occupied all the area south of the Lilla river and the central plains. The Fiskish Tribes occupied all northern Navack, stretching all the way from the border with Andiland to the border with Andmark. The Andish occupation of the peninsula dates all the way back to the 17th BCE, and since then, the Andish people had lived in isolation, surrounded by natural barriers.

Historians believe that each conglomerate had its own dominant tribe. The Bærkish people dominated the southern tribes, as they had full control over both Rød and Blatt rivers, an important passage from the extreme south to the rest of the territory. The Ossians controlled the entrance of the Lille river, giving them all the control over the transport across the Lilla and all the way to the Trelv and Mindre rivers, near Navack's northern border. On the other hand, the Sandish had control over the north due to the good location; as the north gets extremely cold for the extreme northern tribes, they were not able to develop as fast as the Sandish, who became known for their quality ships and fishing activities.

Trinity War and Unification

During the mid 9th century, the three main Navish tribes established themselves as unified kingdoms, keeping the nearby tribes as vassals. At first, tension was little, but as time went by, conflict started to commenc along the borders without natural marks. The Sandish Kingdom and the Ossian Kingdom were the first to fight over land. Soon after, the Berkish Kindgom started to expand north of the Lilla river. By 835, all three kingdoms were constantly fighting among themselves.

Historians still do not have a precise date for the beginning of the Trinity War, as the kingdoms were in a constant state of war. However, it is of common accordance among historians that in 845, both Berkish and Sandish Kings came into accordance about their borders, marked by the Trelv river. Such accordance led to the foramtion of a political and military alliance that served to counter Ossian troops. The war ended when the Ossian King, Harold II, died in battle during the Siege of Brestrand.

After the war, all three kingdoms agreed in unite their forces and settle the territory fights. In May 19th, 847, the United Kingdom of Navack was formed and a new council of Jarls was formed. The first capital as supposed to be Brestrand, in Ossand, but due to a local social-economic issues caused by the war, the new nation capital was moved to Kalgnat, the second biggest city at the time.

Kingdom of Navack

By the mid-900s, Navack established itself as a sailing nation. The Sandish technology was improved for longer sailing time in deeper waters, which allowed the Navish Vikings to sail down the Lhedwin Straight. Raiding soon started, with the first colonies being settled in Newrey. The raids reached coastal lands from modern day Wyllcombe, Newrey, to Wradhian extreme north. For a while, the Navish crown managed to secure possession on the continental land, but that caused the locals to revolt against the foreign presence.

During the late 900s and early 1000s, Tricladian tribes started to slowly resist to Navish presence. In 1011, the Navo-Newreyan war broke down closer to Berke, which demanded the crown's attention. Whilst Navack tried to overpower the smaller Newreyan kingdoms, the revolts in Tricladia increased exponentially. by 1014, Navack had forfeit its presence in Tricladia in order to focus on the war against Newrey. After Berke was set on fire during the Battle of Berke, Navack retreated from Newrey as well. Already weakened by the previous two conflicts, Cuirpthean tribes also revolted against the Navish crown. The Navo-Cuirpthean war did not last as much as the other two, as the locals obliterated the Navish presence in the continent. By 1021, Navack entered a period of recession and economic crises, as the wars to keep the colonies demanded too much money and resources.

The failure to maintain the raids led to a coup within the Jarl council, causing the collapse of the Sørensen dynasty, which have been ruling the Kingdom since it's unification. From 1022 until 1026, Navack was ruled by the Regency of Jarls, until Prince Karl, from the house of Hansen, was chosen to be the new king. The Hansen dynasty was of extreme importance in the Navish history, as they were responsible for founding the Sailing School of Harhalsen and deeply investing in maritime research. While facing an economic struggle during the early 14th century, King Nicolai II allowed the operation of the Sadamic League in the port of Berke. The economic surplus was almost instant, boosting the Navish naval commerce again.

Great Navigations

The period between the 15th and the 16th century was marked by the beginning of the Navish navigations. The Navish crown sought to equal Navish influence in a global spectrum, trying to compete against nations like Midrasia. In 1495, an expedition led by Petter Indahl arrived in Sturhlund, already inhabited by Hafskerian people. In 1522, Caspian Trønnes successfully reached North Arabekh. He returned to Navack with silk and spices, which caught the attention of the crown. Shortly after that, in 1525, the Navack-Arabekh Mission Corporation(Navak-Arabekh Misjonsselskap) was created. The NAMS was responsible for taking care of the trade routes established among Arabekhi people and Navack.

The existence of the NAMS and the growing naval power of Navack caused other colonial powers, such as Midrasia, to rush into a naval race. Considering the distance from, Arabekh, the Navish crown decided to expand its influence in its own backyard. The warm relationship with the Republic of Nausikaa led to the Viikmaa treaty, signed by King Isak II, in 1598, which establish the creation of the Navish-Nausikaa Commonwealth.

In the cities, cultural idiosyncrasies such as the Holmenkollen ski jump attract many visitors, as well as science abilities and cultural learnings and things such as Almånbryggen in Harhalsen and the Vigeland Sculpture Park in Berke.

The culture of Navack evolved as a result of its sparse population, harsh climate, and relative isolation from the rest of Asura. It is therefore distinct from other countries in Asura in that it has fewer opulent palaces and castles, smaller agricultural areas, and longer travel distances. Regionally distinct architecture, crafts, and art are presented in the various folk museums, typically based on an ethnological perspective. Navask Folkemuseum at Blåttøya in Berke is the largest of these.
