The Kingdom of Ajerrin (Ajerr'i: Aupuni o Ajerrʻi), commonly called Ajerr'i or KOA is a federal constitutionally elected monarchy within the continent of Savai on the planet Aeia. The 38.749 million Ajerri inhabit the Kawanaka volcanic island chain in the southern hemisphere of the Great Jade Ocean. Nearly 5 million people call the federal capital city of New Hope home, the mainland coastal city in the state of Ajerrin. The largest city in the Kingdom is Kulana with 5.37 million people, and is also the state capital of Lahu'i. The nation is renowned for its hospitality and agriculture industries, as well its emerging growth in Marine Biotechnology, BioPharma, and MedTech industries. Considered the number one travel destination by the people of Navack, Ajerrin's islands are celebrated for their rugged landscapes of cliffs, waterfalls, tropical foliage and beaches with gold, red, black and even green sands.

The Kingdom of Ajerrin is a federal multi-party representative Kingdom formed by 7 states and 3 federal territories unified in 2003. The 7 states are based on the historical Kawanaka island kingdoms, who retain their royal titles, positions and most of their individual powers within their respective territories. The head of state is elected by and from the seven royal families to serve a five-year term.

The majority of the Ajerrin people enjoy a good quality of life. The educational system is public and free up until senior school and the university level is heavily subsidized by public and private entities. The nation holds a good HDI for the region, sitting at 0.700. Ajerrin is divided into two major ethnic groups: the native Kawanakan and the Chenoan. The Indragiri, Timerian, Okinan, Vanirian and other regional ethnic groups make up a smaller percentage of the population.

The Kingdom has one of the friendliest corporate tax rates in the region, opening its doors to numerous industrial leaders including WaveStorm Boats, Darkwater Irons, and Lono Renewable Partners. Due to the special terrain of the islands, which includes jungles, volcanic flora & fauna, and some of the largest coral reefs in Aeia, Ajerrin has become a corridor for Marine Biotechnology and BioPharma research. Multi-billion dollar companies like Ola Marine BioTech and Kryker Corporation call the Kingdom of Ajerrin home.

In November 2017 the Queen signed into law The_Treaty of Neighbors with the nations of Savai, Indragiri and New Timeria. The Treaty created The Savaian Alliance, led by the Savaian Council. The goal of the Savaian Alliance is to bring together political and economical members of society in order to enrich Savai and increase the prosperity of the 300 million people from the three nations.

In January of 2018 the Kingdom received unanimous approval to be part of the Commonwealth of Democratic Nations. Led by Noelan Kaliona and Alana Iwanali, Ajerrin is the twelfth nation to be part of the supranational Aeian Community. Ajerrin's own Dr. Kelly Iaukea was chosen to be the Director General of the Aeian Public Health Organization in 2018. The Ajerrin Marine Preserve and Kawanakan Heritage Museum were chosen as World Heritage sites from the World Educational and Cultural Organization in 2018.

The name "Ajerr'i" is a Chenoan bastardization of the term "Ahi'eme", or "Fire Mother" in the ancient Kawanakan tongue. The term was first used in 1820s when the Chen Empire colonized the northern islands and the other Kawanakan kingdoms declared war against the massive imperial nation.

History

Prehistoric Colonization of the Kawanaka archipelago

The first Ajerri arrived from Catai around 200 BCE after a long migration from the southeastern islands and Chenosam archepelagos. The hypothesis of an emigration from southeast Catai is supported by a number of linguistic, biological proofs. For example, the native languages of Chenosam, Vanir, Okina and the islands of Dansawae and Timeria all belong to the same Yidao sub-group which itself forms part of the great family of Savaian Languages.

This emigration, across several hundred kilometers of ocean, was made possible using outrigger canoes that were up to twenty or thirty meters long and could transport families as well as domestic animals. In Tonagoni, for example, the Chief's records mentions a great traditional ship that was 109 feet long and could be propelled by sail or paddles. In 2011, an expedition on a simple outrigger canoe with a sail retraced the route from Tongoni back to the mainland of Catai's Chen Empire.

View of Mauna Ula (Red Mountain). The mummies of Ajerrin rulers were formally deposited on this mountain traditionally considered sacred.

Ajerrin society was composed of chiefdoms and territories based on kinship and military power among various clans. A clan was led by a chief, nobles and lesser chiefs. The nobles were believed to be descendants of Kawanakan gods and invested with supernatural power. A symbol of their status were belts made of red feathers.

However, clan leaders did not hold absolute power, and their role included consulting with councils, especially in times of war. The mala'e was a sacred place of worship constructed of raised stone platforms of open ground, performing a cultural function similar to such structures found in other Yadao archipelagos. The mala'e were at the center of spiritual and social life of the clan. Here, gods were invoked and leaders were enthroned in the Kapu Noho ceremony. It was also a place for ceremonies such as the preparation for war, birth celebrations and burial rituals. Types of mala'e ranged from simple family platforms to larger edifices for leaders of high status, although all were considered sacred. The mala'e were protected by tapu, an absolute and sacred ban, transgressing would bring on a curse. The term was passed into western languages as "taboo".

Pre-Chenoan Civilization

Before the arrival of the Cataians the island was divided into different chiefdoms, very precise territories dominated by a single clan. These chiefdoms were linked to each other by allegiances based on the blood ties of their leaders and on their power in war. The most important clan in the archipelago was the Lahu'i, whose territory extended from the peninsula in the center of Mano island. The Lahu'i Clan was composed of the Lahu'i Uta (Lahu'i of the Interior) and the Lahu'i Tai (Lahu'i of the Sea), and was led by Paniolo and Kapuna. The history of the islands is marked by a slow, steady growth in population and the size of chiefdoms, which grew to encompass whole islands. Local chiefs ruled their settlements and launched wars to extend their influence and defend their communities from predatory rivals. Ancient Ajerrin was a caste-based society, much like that of Earth Hindus in India.

A clan's leadership was composed of a chief (Ali'i), nobles (hano) and under-chiefs (malolo o ke ali'i). The hano, considered descendants of the Polynesian gods, were full of mana. They traditionally wore belts of red feathers, symbols of their power. The chief of the clan did not have absolute power. Councils or general assemblies had to be called composed of the hano and the malolo o ke ali'i , especially in case of war. The more unrelated the hano were to the chief of the clan, the more autonomous they were, forming a counterweight to his authority.

Colonization and Resistance

In the early 1820s the Chen Empire colonized the Endik'i island chain and then the Er'in'a island kingdoms in the early 1830s. The Ajerr'i and Lahu'i Kingdoms led a massive army in 1899 to confront the Chen, which at the time was a young empire. Between the massive resistance and a change in Chen leadership, the colonized lands were overrun and left unchallenged as of 1904.

Confederation of Ajerr'i

In 1905 the Confederation of Ajerr'i was formed as a loose alliance between Ajerr'i, Lahu'i, Endik'l and Er'in'a kingdoms, but soon the Confederation devolved into internal strife.

The Lahu'i Kingdom

The Confederation suffered from internal struggles when the Lahui State began its period of expansion from 1939-1941. Chief Likoka conquered the neighboring islands, uniting Weilele, Wai Apo and Tonagoni tribes under his banner. The Confederation was ill prepared to defend an attack by the larger Lahui State, and Chief Likoka conquered the seven Kawanakan tribes to create the Lahui Kingdom in 1941. During his reign, Chief Likoka was seen as an absolute dictator and tyrant.

In 1954, Chief Likoka agreed to send Lahui forces to the Republic of Cheonsam. The Lahui forces would join a Coalition consisting of Rohst, Midrasia, Caruolinda and Ovtandra to stop the People's Republic of Soviet Cheonsam (SPRC) and the Aeian Socialist Union from taking over the island nation.

Lahui gained support from neighboring nation Indragiri after their One State Solution Plan in 1947, and the two were major trading partners until 1995 when Likoka was found enslaving Indragiri villagers to mine the western forests in Ajerrin state. Likoka fell out of favor with the Indragiri during The Red Flag Incident when the Lahui dictator insulted the young nation's flag and its people during a public radio announcement. Indragiri then threw their support to the Federation side of the civil war and the Ajerrin state, tipping the balance of power significantly.

Maikaʻi War/War of Morals

Towards the end of Likoka's reign, the nation became morally bankrupt. Human rights in Lahui became severely limited in certain regions of the nation. In the states of Ajerrin, Wai Apo and Wilele there was no defacto right to free speech and an estimated 400,000 prisoners were incarcerated in camps that are dedicated to political crimes, and are subjected to forced labor, physical abuse, execution and human experimentation.

The Lahui government strictly monitored the activities of foreign visitors. Aid workers were subjected to considerable scrutiny and are excluded from places and regions which the government does not want them to enter. The government's position, expressed through the Lahui News Agency, is that international criticism of its human rights record is a pretext to overthrowing its government, while the abuses of its critics go unpunished.

Likoka's strongest ally, the Indragiri, distanced themselves from the Lahui state after activists proved hundreds of Indragiri citizens were killed while being incarcerated in a work camp inside Ajerrin. After withholding the delivery of two attack ships to the Lahui Navy, King Likoka spoke out against the Indragiri and insulted their people and its flag, which later came to be known as The Red Flag Incident.

The absolutist Lahu'i State lasted until 1997, when a civil war broke out when Federation forces led by the Ajerr'i, Wai Apo and Wilele kingdoms were supported by the Indragiri Military. The Federation forces won, turning the Lahu'i State into a Federation of Monarchs, devolving significant powers to their respective areas and making the Ajerr'i King its ruler.

The Kingdom of Ajerrin

The Federation brought together the seven kingdoms of the Kawanaka archipelago (from north to south): the Endik'i, Wilele, Er'in'a, Lahu'i, Ajerr'i, Wai Apo, and Tongoni kingdoms. King Kalakaua I of Ajerrin led the Federation to freedom. He created a democratic monarchical system, writing a constitution, a two house legislative system and a judicial branch.

In reality the peace was maintained by successive strongman governments of the Ajerr'i and Wai Apo kingdoms, which has to this day kept the country from falling apart due to the strength and influence of the various kingdoms. In 2017 Queen Lani Nakoa promoted significant reforms to the National Congress who overwhelmingly approved the measures. Under Queen Nakoa, the ruling monarch lost significant protections from the original constitution. The Royal Hand turned into a Prime Minister, needing approval and support from the National Congress to lead. Queen Nakoa and the National Congress approved a Tongoni expansion with the addition of the Okina islands through marriage. The Queen also improved foreign relations by creating The Savaian Alliance with Indragiri and New Timeria. The Queen and Ajerrin are also founding members of The Aeian Environment, the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development across Aeia, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

Government

Overview

The head of state appoints governors serving a four year term for the three territories without monarchies. Governance of the states is divided between the federal and state governments, with different powers reserved for each, and the Federal government has direct administration of the federal territories. Lower-level administration is carried out by local authorities, including city councils, district councils and municipal councils, although autonomous statutory bodies can be created by federal and state governments to deal with certain tasks. The federal constitution puts local authorities outside of the federal territories under the exclusive jurisdictions of the state government, although in practice the federal government has intervened in the affairs of state local government several times.

Ma ka Lokomaikaʻi o ke Akua, Moʻi Wahine o ko Ajerrʻi Pae ʻAina Lani Kawana Nakoa

The Office of the Federal Elected Monarch

The Office of the Federal Elected Monarch or the Moʻi Wahine o ko Ajerrʻi Pae ʻAina is a very new branch of government created after the fall of the absolutist monarchy of the Lahu'i State. It's position is chosen much the same way as a Tribal chief would, through the Kapu Noho ceremony, except for this Kapu Noho the head of state of the entire federation is selected from among the tribal heads of states who rule the federation. In this case, the Lahu’i, the Endik’i, the Er’in’a, the Tonagoni, Wai Apo, Wilele Kuahiwi and the Ajerr’i to publicly stand behind one leader as a show of public prostration.

The constitution specifies that the executive power of the Federal Government is vested in the Moʻi Wahine o ko Ajerrʻi Pae ʻAina and is exercised by her on the advise of the Federal Council of Ministers (Cabinet). Among them, Moʻi Wahine o ko Ajerrʻi Pae ʻAina has discretionary powers to choose who she wants as the Royal Hand and is not bound by the decision of the outgoing RH. She also can dismiss or withhold consent to request for the dissolution of Parliament. He may discontinue or dissolve Parliament but she can only dissolve Parliament at the request of the RH. For a bill to become law, royal assent is required. Perhaps the greatest strength of the positions lies in it's ability to control the military. The Federal President holds the military title of "Royal Commandant of Ajerrin". The Monarch has the power to command the armed forces during conflict, but does not have the power to declare war or use the military to usurp control away from the government.

The Federal Monarch is expected to work directly with the Assembly and People's House to achieve the desired political outcome. The Federal Monarch, by constitutional law, serves for 5 years and cannot, under any circumstances, serve more than four consecutive 5 year terms in office.

The current Federal Monarch is Lani Kawana Nakoa. Her official title is Ma ka Lokomaikaʻi o ke Akua, Moʻi Wahine o ko Ajerrʻi Pae ʻAina or By the grace of God, Queen of the Ajerrin Islands, elected in 2017CE. The Queen was chosen as the Federal Monarch after the death of King Kani Lakanoka in early 2017CE.

Ali'i Lima Toko Konohiki

The Office of the Royal Hand/Prime Minister

According to the new federal constitution, the Moʻi Wahine o ko Ajerrʻi Pae ʻAina shall first appoint as Prime Minister to preside over the Federal Council of Ministers (Cabinet) and requires such Prime Minister to be a member of The People's House who in her judgement is likely to command the confidence of the majority of the members of that House and must be an Ajerri citizen by naturalization or by registration. The Moʻi Wahine o ko Ajerrʻi Pae ʻAina on the Prime Minister's advice shall appoint other ministers from either The Assembly or The People's House.

The power of the prime minister is subject to a number of limitations. Prime ministers removed as leader of his or her party, or whose government loses a vote of no confidence in The People's House, must advise a new election of the lower house or resign the office or be dismissed by the Moʻi Wahine o ko Ajerrʻi Pae ʻAina.

The Royal Hand has always been appointed by the Moʻi Wahine o ko Ajerrʻi Pae ʻAina to preside over the Cabinet. Toko Konohiki was the Royal Hand of the Kingdom of Ajerrin, restyled to Prime Minister of the Kingdom on November 19th, 2017 after the major reforms by Queen Lani Kawana Nakoa.

The Assembly

The Assembly serves as the upper house of the National Congress. The members of the Assembly are known as Kahuna 'elele or Chief's Representatives (a hold over from when Ajerrin was a Confederation).

A Kahuna 'elele serves essentially the same function as an Arbiter the only true difference being the number of people and area represented. Ten Kahuna 'elele are elected from each one of Ajerrin's states and three from Federal Territories. Under the Constitution, the Prime Minister advises the Moʻi Wahine o ko Ajerrʻi Pae ʻAina on the appointment of 24 out of 79 members of The Assembly. The Kahuna 'elele may propose and pass legislation to be taken into effect for their respective states but Federal Territories must get a majority approval from the Assembly before it moves to the lower branch of the National Congress.

Kahuna 'elele serve for a period of four years and may not serve more than two terms by Ajerrin law.

  National Labor Party: 144 seats
  Royal Conservatives: 140 seats
  National Island Party: 40 seats
  Ajerrin First: 25 seats

The People's House

The People's House is composed of representatives of people chosen by direct election on the basis of Universal Adult Suffrage. Maximum strength of the House is 560 members. At present, the strength of the House is 554. Any citizen of Ajerrin can be elected to the position of an Kio'o, and serve as a representative for their receptive community. The key difference between People's House and the Assembly, is in the area size they represent. Kio'o usually come from and represent a specific city, or in the case of more rural area they represent a county. The term of the Advocate, or Koi'i, unless dissolved, is five years from the date appointed for its first meeting. However, while a proclamation of emergency is in operation, this period may be extended by National Assembly by law for a period not exceeding one year at a time and not extending in any case, beyond a period of six months after the proclamation has ceased to operate.

The Court of Justice

The Court of Justice is the highest judicial court in the nation and exerts great influence on interpretation and application on constitutional law. It contains ten members who are appointed by the Federal Monarch and are approved by the the People's House, and then serve for life or until resignation, abdication, or impeachment.

The various members of the Court of Justice are known as Luna Kanawai or Judiciaries. The leader is known as the Kahuna Luna Kanawai or Chief Judiciaries. Unique to this court is the fact that members can be appointed from a variety of backgrounds, not justice exclusively from legal backgrounds. Generals, lawyers, doctors, and teachers have at all at some time or another served as Luna Kanawai.

While the main goal of the Court of Justice is the interpretation of constitutional law, the other great function is application of the law. This is accomplished by having the Court of Justice being in charge of the Ajerrin police forces, who are controlled by the Kahuna Luna Kanawai.

The current Kahuna Luna Kanawai is James Aiona.

Royal Armed Forces

The Royal Armed Forces of Ajerrin is divided into three combat branches, the Navy, Army, and Air Force. In addition to the combat branches the Office of Military Intelligence and the Military Services Division are uniformed parts of the Ajerri military. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ajerri is the Head of State, the King or Queen of Ajerrin, though that is mostly a traditional role. The Armed Forces employs about 98,500 civilians and about 390,500 soldiers and is based in Koamalu, within the state of Ajerrin. The current military service ages are 18-35. Until late 2017, the Ajerri Military was based on the tribal idea of conscription for males stating at the age of 18, serving for one year and would be part of the Royal Ajerri Reserve Force for a total of 15 years. The Reserve Force was made up of about 2,100,000 soldiers until Queen Nakoa formally discontinued the draft in September to make way for a smaller, tighter army that will number a reserve force of of 400,000 and a total of around 900,000 people.

Religion

The Kawanakan religion, called Kumulipo, is much the same as other cultures, with a theology, ritual and code of conduct. There are many gods and heroes. The Sky Father wed the Earth Mother. From their union came all others, including other gods. The Kawanakan religion is polytheistic, with four deities most prominent: Kane, Ku, Lono, and Kanaloa. Other notable deities include Laka, Kihawahine, Haumea, Papahanaumoku, and most famously Pele. In addition, each family is considered to have one or more guardian spirits or family gods known as 'aumakua to protect them. One such god is Iolani, the god of ali'i families.

One breakdown of the Kawanakan pantheon consists of the following groups:

  • four major gods
  • forty male gods or aspects of Kane
  • four hundred gods and goddesses
  • a multitude of gods and goddesses
  • spirits
  • guardians

World Educational and Cultural Organization

Ajerrin applied to be part of the World_Educational_and_Cultural_Organization in December of 2017. Chairman Bendtsen traveled to Ajerrin and met Queen Nakoa during the announcement. The two visited the Kawanakan Heritage Museum and the Akua Ka Hale Marine Sciences Institute, two locations that have the potential to become a World Heritage Site which could be approved as early as mid-January. Queen Nakoa met with WECO Chairman Joel Bendtsen at the Royal Palace to discuss the potential to discuss the crea tion of a WECO cluster office for Savai, in addition to a national office, after January. WECO's aim is "to contribute to the building of peace, the eradication of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, the sciences, culture, communication and information". IN 2018 WECO declared the Kawanakan Heritage Museum and the Federal Marine Preserve to be a World Heritage Site. While most Asuran nations participate in the organization, the Kingdom will be the first from Savai and the continent of Yidao.

Federal Marine Reserve

Ajerrin has protected more than 88,000 square miles of maritime land after expanding the Federation Protected Marine Reserve Law in December of 2017. In January of 2018, the World Educational and Cultural Organization declared the Marine Preserve to be a World Heritage Site

The move will provide added protections for deep-sea coral reefs and other marine ecosystems that administration officials say are among “the most vulnerable” to the effects of a growing population and climate change on Aeia. The areas contain “significant objects of scientific interest that are part of this highly pristine deep sea and open ocean ecosystem with unique biodiversity,” according to the Federal Marine Reserve Protection Law. All commercial extraction activities, including fishing and future deep-sea mining, will be prohibited in the expanded monument area. However, recreational fishing, removal of resources for traditional Hawaiian cultural purposes and scientific research will be allowed with a federal permit.

The plan now creates a two hundred-mile circle around Okina's southern islands of the Kawanaka, and expands the protectorate's water around the Federal Territory of Akua Ka Hale by half that. The Uporu Islands of Erin'a, The Pohakulua Islands of Endik'i and Reeds Reef between Nakana, Tu'ova, and Puina Islands in Wilele Kuahiwi have also been granted Federal Marine Reserve Protection status with a 50-mile radius.

Kawanakan Heritage Museum

The Kawanakan Heritage Museum is a museum of history and science located in the Historic Royal Grounds of Maka on the Ajerrin island of Lahu'i. Founded in 1875, it is the largest museum in Ajerrin and has the world's largest collection of Kawanakan cultural artifacts and natural history specimens. Besides the comprehensive exhibits of Kawanakaa, the museum's total holding of natural history specimens exceeds 24 million, of which the entomological collection alone represents more than 13.5 million specimens. In January of 2018, the World Educational and Cultural Organization declared the Museum to be a World Heritage Site.

Sports

Savaian Football League (SFL)

Savaian Football League is a unified Ajerri, Indragiri and Timerish professional league for men's association football clubs in Aeia. The league is Savai's primary domestic football competition, located at the top of the sub-continent's football league system. The league hosts 16 clubs, with 8 Timerish teams, 4 Ajerri teams and 4 Indragiri teams, and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the bottom three teams each season being relegated to SFL Series B. According to the FFA's league coefficient, Savaian Football League is a new and upcoming domestic league in Aeia. The league is now considered a hub for growth and development for new athletes, with Ajerrin teams sending players to the Navack national football team and other international clubs. In 2018 the Lahui Crowns, New Hope, and Royal Guardians were invited to the International Champions Cup.

Kawanakan Football League (KFL)

Kawanakan Football League is an Ajerri professional league for men's association football clubs in Aeia. The league is Ajerrin's primary domestic football competition, located at the top of the nation's football league system. The league was formed in July 13th 1918 during the first Ajerrin Confederation, stopping play in 1941 and during the Maikaʻi War from late 1997 to 2006. Originally formed as a League of 10, the KFL experienced four expansions, the first in 1943 adding four teams, two in 1966 and the remaining four in 2017. The league operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the bottom three teams each season being relegated to KFL Series B. According to the FFA's league Vice-President, the Kawanakan Football League is making its presence known in Aeia. The KFL boasts many members from the National Sharks Team, where they placed 4th in the Copa d'Aeia 2017. The league is now considered a hub for growth and development for new athletes, sending players to the Navack national football team and other international teams.

National Football Team

Prior to the Civil War, the Lahui State formed a national team named The Sea Dragons. The team played in the Copa D'Aeia from 1984 just up to the Civil War in 1997. While they never won the Champion's Cup, The Sea Dragons were Runners-Up in 1985, 1993 and 1994 tying Navack for the third-most Runners-up honors.

In an effort to grow out of its isolationist policies, the Queen approved of a new Ajerrin National Football Team to play in the Copa D'Aeia and finished 4th in the rankings. Upon their return, the Queen completed a new state-of-the-art football stadium for the Sharks in New Hope. The Sharks National Team is made from the various Kingdom Football Clubs and was first coached by the legendary striker of the Lahui Crowns and the former coach of the Red Coral Reef Sharks, Kupono Hopaeo. His resignation came after the Sharks finished without a win or a goal in the Aeian Friendly Cup. Fiftia Sitake, Coach of the Southern Stars FC was named the National Sharks Coach later that week.
