The House of Eirikr (Emerstarian: Hus av Eirikr) is an Emerstarian dynasty which has, with some exception, continuously held the throne of the Kingdom of Emerstari since its creation in 1047. Dynastic marriages, especially of the children of the "Grandfather of Scania" Erik VIII Olaf, enabled the family to expand its domains throughout the Scanian peninsula. Due to the consolidation of Scania in the nineteenth century, however, members of the House of Eirikr and its cadet branches reign currently in only five countries: Canaria, Eilben, Emerstari, Ingelland, and Soumeland.
The House is from the House of Kveldling and takes its name from its founder, Eirikr Segersæalla who, originally the ruler of the petty Kingdom of Flodland, united Emerstari in the mid-eleventh century. One of the agnatic lines of Eirikr ended in 1529 with the ascension of Nathalie II Else to the throne of Emerstari; though, due to the marriage of Elsa III Marie and Hasse Eirikr—Folkburg in 1872, all subsequent Emerstarian and Soumish kings can trace their direct male line to Eirikr Segersælla. Willem IX of Canaria and Thomes Adulf Lorenssen—Eirikr, the Duke of Ekkesburg and claimant to the throne of the Green Union, can trace their direct male line to Bjarnvaldi of Ekkesburg, one of Eirikr's brothers.
History
Origins
The House of Eirikr is today generally considered to have been founded upon the ascension of Eirikr Segersælla to the throne of the Kingdom of Flodland in 1036; however, there are no contemporary mentions of the House of Eirikr until some time after the creation of the Kingdom of Emerstari by Eirikr in 1047. Eirikr until that point identified with the House of Kveldling (from the Hrudolfling clan) whose namesake, High Chieftain Kveldur, is according to Emerstarian tradition Eirikr's fourteenth great grandfather and a descendant of Noah. For this reason, it has occasionally been argued whether the House of Eirikr is a continuation of the House of Kveldling or if it is a cadet branch of the Houes of Kveldling. Presently and historically, the members of the House of Eirikr have maintained that the former is true.
