The Zorasani Irfanic Revolutionary Air Force (Pardarian: ارتش انگلآب زوراسانی ارفانی; Arteš-e Enghelâb-e Javv-ye Mosallah-e Zorasāni-e Erfāni) is the aerial warfare uniform service branch of the Zorasani Irfanic Revolutionary Army, tasked primarily with the aerial defence of Zorasan, with a secondary role of providing air support to the Zorasani Irfanic Revolutionary Land Forces and the Zorasani Irfanic Revolutionary Navy. The ZIRAF has a tertiary role of providing strategic air transport and logistics capability to Zorasan. As of 2017, per ISSG, the ZIRAF has 75,000 personnel. It operates 1,105 aircraft.
Its primary mandate and mission is "to provide, in synergy with other inter-services, the most efficient, assured and cost effective aerial Defence of Zorasan." Since its establishment in 1946, the ZIRAF has been involved in various combat operations, providing aerial support to military operations and relief efforts.
History
Formation
The origins of the ZIRAF are traced back to the late 1930s, when Xiaodong provided the Revolutionary Resistance Command with a series of fighter-aircraft and twin engined bombers. The nascent air force saw little action, owing to the lack of trained pilots and a shortage of ammunition, however, the aircraft would survive the Solarian War and Zorasani Uprising. In wake of Zorasani independence in 1946 and the fracturing of the state, the RRC formally created the Zorasani Irfanic Revolutionary Air Force, utilising the aircraft preserved from the 1930s.
Further assistance came from abroad, when the RRC secured the delivery of eighteen Lyobov Ly-5 and ten Yegorov Yeg-9 fighters from Chervolesia via Xiaodong. With training assistance from Xiaodong and steady supplies of ammunitiion the ZIRAF would be the only viable example of an airforce in the Zorasani region until the late 1950s.
Pardarian Civil War
With the outbreak of war between the various factions of post-war Pardaran, the ZIRAF launched coordinated attacks on Imperial and warlord positions and forces, often only in support of ground operations. On the 20 April 1947, the ZIRAF launched several airstrikes on poorly constructed Imperial airbases south of Zahedan, destroying 11 aircraft.
