About

Arragaran steel blades are lighter, stronger, and sharper than even the best castle-forged steel, and feature distinctive rippled patterns similar to Damascus steel. Most Arragaran steel blades in Ghant are treasured heirlooms of noble houses, each with its own name and storied history. They can be identified by their unusual dusky color, distinctive rippled patterns, and the extreme sharpness of the blade.

Only the ancient and sacred order of forgemasters in Arragaran can forge Arragaran steel swords, and the secret of creating such an alloy is closely guarded and known only by the chief forgemasters, and they only make swords as often and for whomever "the Old Gods ordain". As a result, very seldom are these swords forged, making those weapons highly treasured and extremely rare.

The properties of Arragaran steel are well-known, and are the result of both folding iron many times to balance and remove impurities, and the use of secret arts to give unnatural strenth to the resulting steel. Those arts are closely guarded secrets by only the most venerable of the forgemasters. It is believed that only around 215 such weapons have ever been forged.

Blades with unknown fate

Most Arragaran steel was a grey so dark it looked almost black, as was true here as well. But blended into the folds was a violet so deep as the grey. The two colors lapped over one another without ever touching, each ripple distinct, like waves of night and velvet upon some steely shore. It was a slender blade designed for a woman's hand, and the hilt was moonstone decorated with amethysts.

The Emperor of Ghant is offering 10 million NSD and a Lordship for its return.

  • Ozeanoekaitz, (Ocean Storm), the sword of the Kings of Laracia. Lost during the Cetan Civil War. Fate unknown.
  • Zarandar, the first Arragaran steel sword, forged by the mythical hero Toran, who also founded the Order of Arragaran forgemasters. Used to kill Balabos, the mythical last Dragon of Ghant. The sword was plunged deep into the dragon's belly, and was lost along with the dragon, in parts unknown.
