The Q100-class frigate is a class of air defence frigates in service with the Quetanan Navy and other militaries. The vessels were built by shipbuilder Gonçalves in Ledua and Malcanes, with the first ships built in 1980. The ships are fitted with a weapons system allowing them to track hundreds of airborne targets simultaneously as part of its air defence network. The Q100 frigates are the first modern vessels of the Quetanan Navy to incorporate ballistic resistant steel in the hull, along with the power plants being mounted on anti-vibration mounts to reduce noise and make them less detectable by submarines.
Construction
Export
The Q100-class was the first frigate developed by Quetana to see extensive export by approval of the National Assembly. The first foreign-built Q100s were ordered in 1980 by Albarine and Siniapore, with a total of 6 ships. In 1982, the Wallenland government ordered 7 ships, but due to cost constraints ultimately agreed to 6. Ships have also been built for Alcarres, Sulifa, Phou, Jyau, and Saint Offeat.
The Quetanan government announced in June 2007 that, in partnership with Villorvi, three vessels were built for their navy with the first due for delivery in 2014. However, this was delayed until 2017 when lead ship VME Ciulava was commissioned. Two of their three ships were in service by 2020.
