Adrian Laziades (Iavonian: Ανδριαν Λαζιάδης, born 1 January 1965) is a Iavonian politician currently serving as the prime minister of Iavonia since 2016. He has been leader of the Diamesloavités party since 2014, after the Αρκαδικό Σκάνδαλο Κατοικίας which spurred the rising of the left Diamesloavités to a position of power in the Gianniadis government. Laziades has been a member of government since 2008 after his election to The Boule in a surprising upset victory against the formerly popular MoP Elias Trainelis. He would lead his party to a leading coalition role in the 2016 Iavonian Elections.

Laziades' appointment followed a protracted constitutional crisis spanning two years, during which King George XIII of Iavonia repeatedly declined to appoint him, citing his anti-monarchist views and past leftism. The crisis would only be resolved with the interference of military officials to "encourage" the king to change his opinion on the matter, in what has been cited as a major shift in monarchical-military relations.

Laziades has commonly portrayed himself as a common-sense candidate, as well as a "Compassionate Moderate". These self-descriptors are broadly believed to be inaccurate, owing to his development of the radical Anti-International Regionalism school of international affairs, a militaristic foreign policy, and notably statist economic policies. Under his term as Prime Minister, concerns have been raised internationally about the suppression of pro-monarchic voices in media and voting systems, the usage of wiretapping on political opponents by members of the Diamesloavités, smear campaigns against other leaders both abroad and internally, and a renewed utilization of fascistic or generally discriminatory terms for minority populations within the country, exacerbated by Anti-International Regionalism's perceived racial basis. Laziades' government was responsible for the legalization of same-sex adoption, following the legalization of same-sex marriage by his direct predecessor Stelios Gianniadis.

Laziades would launch a self-coup against his own Cabinet, establishing the Republic of Iavonia after the death of George XIII and his children during his attempted arrest early in the morning. He is currently serving as Temporary President of the Republic of Iavonia until the 2025 Iavonian Elections.

Early Life, Education

Laziades was born in Atalánte on the first of January, 1965. His father would be a minor member of the then-ongoing Iavonian Junta, being allowed to retain his military rank after its collapse in 1979 and becoming an official of some note under the 20-year period of Συντηρητική Συμμαχία leadership. He would graduate from Atalánte University with a doctorate in economics, although his interests around this time would begin to turn to foreign policy - with his senior thesis being self-published as a book titled "The Economic Incentive for Regional Development" (Οικονομικό κίνητρο για περιφερειακές επενδύσει). It would recieve limited coverage, but seems to have been a focal point for the development of Anti-International Regionalism.

Political Career

United Front Campaign

Laziades would become involved in the leftist United Front campaign of 1992, acting as a stump orator and grassroots organizer for the Front in Atalánte. The campaign would prove ultimately unsuccessful, with Laziades leaving the UF after its dissolution in 1993 as a result of the lack of electoral sway gained, but it would influence his political style and general activities / presentation of himself as a leader even past that point. Laziades would align with the left of the Diamesloavités after this point, who had been bolstered by a moderate flood of leftists since the collapse of the UF.

Diamesloavités

As mentioned, Laziades would emerge as a figure in the left of the Diamesloavités, which had rapidly been bolstered after the collapse of the United Front. He, while self-describing as a centrist during this period (similar to his appropriation of the title of a compassionate moderate) would be notable connected to militant aspects of the newly renewed left, including several individuals implicated in terroristic plots against the then-ruling Conservative Alliance, although he himself would not be implicated as playing any direct role in such. He would be appointed as the director of the Σύλλογος Πολιτικής Νεολαίας, the youth wing of the Diamesloavités, where he would realign the body to support the left of the party through the reassignment of group leaders opposed to such.

His work in the Sýllogos would result in him being allowed to run as a candidate in his native Atalánte in 2008, where he would unexpectedly beat the popular Elias Trainelis through a campaign of "Brown-Baiting" wherein he would form an association between Elias and his supporters in the current period and the previously notable fascistic groupings who had supported Elias's initial candidacy during the pre-war period of Iavonian politics, alongside playing to populist sentiments in the region and presenting himself as an economic rationalizer in comparison to the policies of the Conservative Alliance.

MoP

After his election, Laziades would propose several pieces of legislature related to his rapidly developing beliefs in regards to Anti-International Regionalism, including a bill to cease relations with Nifon (which was considered, but eventually refused by George XIII), several bills relating to economic aid to what would later become Eulabia a Nation during their own civil war (all refused by George XIII), and a bill to have George XIII executed by firing squad (taking place after the refusal of multiple bills, almost resulting in his removal from the Boule). He would become a member of the Stelios Shadow Cabinet (Shadow Minister for Finance) despite his lack of favor amongst the monarchy, owing both to the perceived usefulness of his populism as a campaigning tool and his knowledge of economics similarly being perceived as useful for the upcoming elections.

He would gather a greater following during this period, although he was kicked from the Shadow Council after the end of the election and the beginning of the Stelios Government. This growth in following was primarily derived from the perceived truth of his geopolitical ideals, with ongoing economic and political struggle in Eulabia encouraging economic self-reliance, and from such foreign-self reliance, in the general population. Laziades would curry this favor into a leadership election against Stelios, which would surprisingly succeed due to a third faction (the right of the Diamesloavités) emerging and compromising Stelios's centrist position. It was later revealed that this split was fomented by leftist members of the Diamesloavités, although Laziades was not directly implicated.
