John Daedalus (Flavius Daedalus Veiento Iohannes; b. 18 July 1990) is a Latin politician and attorney who currently serves as Senator for the constituency of Ostia Aterni. He is currently the youngest member of the Latin Senate. He currently serves as Magistrate for Housing and Local Government on the Latin cabinet since 2018; he previously served as Senatorial Private Secretary to the Consul.

Daedalus graduated from the University of Aarhusium in 2013, earning a law degree under an extended program. From 2013 until 2015, he worked as a judicial clerk in the Latin Court of Appeals for Anna Laskaris – now a Lady Justice of the Supreme Court. Daedalus was later employed as a campaign advisor for Conservative Senator Justinian Caepasius during the 2015 election. He continued to serve as a policy advisor for Senator Caepasius until his decision to run for the Senate himself in 2017. He was elected to the Senate by a 2% margin, becoming the first non-left wing party member (not Liberal Party or Progressive Party) to win the Ostia Aterni constituency.

Early life, education, career

Flavius Daedalus Veiento Iohnnes was born on 18 July 1990 at St. Joseph–Aarhusium National Hospital in Aarhusium, Latium to Jason Daedalus and Ionnia (née Daedala). His father is of Latin descent and has been employed as a police officer for the county of Lusitania since 1982. His mother attended the University of Aarhusium and has been a primary school teacher for the Aarhusium School Board since 1986. His parents originate from rural county Anio in central Latium and are first cousins. Daedalus has two younger sisters: Maria and Honoria.

Daedalus attended Saint Nicolas Primary School, a state school in Aarhusium for his primary schooling. At the age of 12, he was enrolled at St. Faustus Academy, an independent–private school in nearby Ostia Aterni, which he attended until his commencement in 2007. After taking a gap year where he travelled to Fabria in the Ecclesiastical State and Vannois, Daedaluls enrolled at the University of Aarhusium for his university education, taking part in the school's extended degree law program. Throughout his schooling, Daedalus worked at nearby law firms and interned at the Conservative Party's legal division just before his graduation in 2012.

Election

Deadalus was employed as a policy advisor and political strategist in Senator Justinian Caepasius' offices from . During the 2016 succession crisis, Daedalus remained in Castellum. At the end of the crisis and dissolution of the Senate, Daedalus resigned from his position with Senator Caepasius and announced his intention to run for the constituency of Ostia Aterni near Aarhusium. The seat had previously been held by Progressive Senator Jordan Avidius. Ostia Aterni has been widely cited as one of the most liberal constituencies in Latium, having been held by a Liberal or Progressive senator since the 1870s.

Daedalus had initially planned to run as an Independent candidate, though reportedly received offers to run as a member of Citizens – Popular Alternative and Catholic Democratic Alliance, before joining United Latium before the March 9 deadline. He faced no primary opponent, though the incumbent senator, Jordan Avidius, lost in the Progressive primary. Daedalus was polling near 25 to 30% throughout the campaign, and capitalized on a strong final push by the CPA candidate Sophia Erucia, which saw a split between left-leaning voters on election day. Daedalus received 31% on election day, enough to earn a plurality and victory; his closest opponent was Progressive incumbant Jordan Avidius who only earned 29% of the popular vote.

When he was sworn in on 21 April 2017, Daedalus became the youngest Senator of the 40th Senate.
