Ajax, also known as the Ajax period, is the period of human history spanning from the invention of writing around the 4th century BCE to the present day. This era follows the maturation of early civilization, the age of great empires, the formation of the nation state, and the birth of the industrial and information ages. The current age of Ajax features a variety of nations and peoples across the world's 7 continents, and is hallmarked by an unprecedented age of globalization, international cooperation, and relative peace and stability.

Etymology

The term Ajax comes from the Aradian legend of Ajax the Traveler, who traveled the known world documenting all of the histories of the peoples he met, compiling them into a book of histories. While there is no evidence that Ajax ever existed, the term became widely popular in the 1790's to describe the era of recorded history.

History

Ajax sees three distinct eras of written history. The Classical Era from the beginning of written history c. 4,000 BCE to 500 CE, the Post-Classical Era from 500 CE to 1450 CE, and the Modern Era from 1450 CE to the present. Each era encompasses distinct characteristics of human civilization, including the emergence of writing, the proliferation of international trade, and the development of nuclear technologies.

The world is currently seeing an era of peace and cooperation, though there still exists major areas of conflict and tension.

Malaio

Malaio is a minor but active continent of both native and colonial nations. It is connected by land to Scipia and has four notable nations: Kalakora, Iskali, Socoasen, and Pulau Keramat. The continent is seeing a great deal of strife and conflict due to the Kalakoran Civil War, which has been going on for 9 years. Primary resources include rhodium, phosphorus, coffee, and various maritime products.

Kalakora is found in northern Malaio, bordered to the south by Iskali. Currently embroiled in a multi-faction, long running civil war, the nation has seen extreme destruction and hardship. 5 major factions currently rule various parts of the nation, with the two largest, the Kalakoran Republic made up of the old totalitarian government, and the Free Republic of Kalakora made up of a variety of rebel groups, fighting for total control of the nation. Its primary exports, rhodium and phosphorus, have seen production disrupted immensely due to this conflict, resulting in potential shortages world wide. The rise of the Matou Polynesian nationalist terrorist group has further disrupted the lives of Kalakorans.

Pulau Keramat consists of the northernmost peninsula and archipelago of Malaio, sharing a southern maritime border with Kalakora. The Confederated Oligarchical Republic was known for helping stabilize contact with the region after historical isolationist sentiments had characterized the area in years past. The nation has an intricate system to the separation of powers, with each of the member nations holding their own elections, as well as supranational elections and testings held for the Dewan Emas, a council of six that hold executive decision-making prowess over the nation. Some important resources of the nation include various maritime products, shipbuilding, and numerous agricultural industries, as well as serving as an enormous port for reshipping and reexporting goods between the Vespanian and Ozeros Seas. Currently, the civil war consuming Kalakora has been at the forefront of policy and action for the nation, with a recent attack by the Matou within the country having resulted in intensive involvement with the civil war.

Oxidentale

Oxidentale is a relatively industrialized continent of native nations. It has four notable nations: Caripe, Deseret, Mutul, and Sante Reze. Through the Common Congress, the continent has managed to resolve disputes and emerge as a continent of major and minor powers. The continent's primary resources and exports include significant rare earth metal reserves, major agricultural industries, pharmaceuticals, and other industrial goods. The primary conflict is the historical cold war between Sante Reze and Deseret that has existed since the end of the Condozi War.

Deseret is located in central Oxidentale, bordered to the north by Sante Reze. It is a Theocratic Elective Monarchy led de jure by King Jesus Christ, but in reality by the Lord President and the Quorum of Apostles. It's relatively urbanized, though with a sizable rural population, and fairly industrialized. Important industries include agriculture, electronics, and other manufacturing. It has been in a cold war with Sante Reze since the 1920's. A minor power, it's an emerging rival against Sante Reze's hegemony over Oxidentale.
