Julius Smirnof Airport serves the Radictistani island of Ailand Vakka, a popular resort destination for the Radictistani elite and middle class. It is named for the original discoverer of the island, fishing captain Julius Smirnof and located near the department seat, Mariashafen. One of the smallest airports in Radictistan acessible to jet air traffic, Julius Smirnof is considered a challenging airport for pilots because of the disorienting effect of the overwater approach and the relatively short length of the sole runway. The Royal Maritime Police also uses the facility as a station for search-and-rescue helicopters.
Runways and operational infrastructure
The airport's one runway has a length of only twenty-two hundred meters, requiring the use of smaller jet aircraft such as the An-148 or Yak-42. To assist pilots in navigation, the airport is equipped with a microwave landing system and a VOR/DME installation. The local tower has both a primary and secondary surveillance radar capability.
Terminal
Julius Smirnof Airport has only one terminal. There are no jetways; passengers walk to one of twelve aircraft stands and board using a mobile staircase. Despite its small size the terminal has all the standard passenger amenities including restaurants and airline lounges.

Because of the island's position as a popular vacation destination for the Radictistani middle class and elite, Julius Smirnof Airport is frequently host to general aviation flights. Private and corporate aircraft are a common sight on the apron and runway.
