Nuxenstat Xenocimedes Radicti International Airport is an international airport located along the county line between Greater Nuxenstat and Yestingsur in the Grand Duchy of Radictistan. NXR serves the capital city-county of Nuxenstat and is named after the current Grand Duke of Radictistan, His Royal Highness Xenocimedes Radicti. It is the busiest airport in Radictistan in terms of passenger traffic and is the primary point of arrival and departure for international passenger flights. The state-owned flag carrier Royal Radictistan Airways has its primary hub here. General aviation flights typically use Nuxenstat City Airport, located closer to the city center.

NXR also houses Nuxenstat Central Air Base, which shares runway facilities and air traffic control with the civilian airport. This facility acts as the headquarters for RRAF Air Combat Command and Special Operations Command, and houses fighter and helicopter squadrons.

Runways and operational infrastructure

Nuxenstat Xenocimedes International Airport has four runways. Runways 03R/21L and 03L/21R are used for flights with wide-body aircraft while the shorter 08/26 pair are used by domestic flights with smaller aircraft. All runways and other aircraft-bearing surfaces are made of concrete. All runways are equipped with a microwave landing system for precision approach, including autoland capability. For navigation over longer distances, a VORTAC installation is present on the airport grounds. Data from both primary and secondary surveillance radar is available to both local ATC and the Greater Nuxenstat Terminal Control Center. A precision approach radar provides azimuth and height guidance for military aircraft and for civil aircraft in the event of MLS malfunction. The airport tower is also equipped with a ground surveillance radar to detect unauthorized entry and prevent ground accidents.

Terminals

Nuxenstat Xenocimedes Radicti International Airport has four terminals totaling 141 gates. Terminals A and D are used for domestic flights. Terminals B and C are the international terminals. The terminals are laid out in a linear fashion. All four are connected by a monorail system called AirLink. Because it is the country's premier international airport, the terminals at Nuxenstat Xenocimedes Radicti have numerous amenities, including fine restaurants and high-end boutiques. Royal Radictistan Airways and Norcust Aviation both operate airport lounges for their frequent fliers.

Terminal A

Terminal A has 34 gates. It was the orginal domestic terminal. It is now used mostly by Royal Radictistan Airways and Norcust Aviation.

Terminal B

One of the international terminals, Terminal B has 39 gates. It was constructed along with Terminal A and opened with the airport. The terminal has a capsule hotel located within the secure zone with micro rooms rentable for a minimum of six hours.

Terminal C

The other international terminal, Terminal C has 36 total gates.

Terminal D

Terminal D is the smallest terminal with only 32 gates. It is also the newest, being built shortly after Terminal C to cope with an increase in domestic passenger levels. It is used by Royal Radictistan Airways and low-cost carriers.

Cargo

The airport is also home to extensive cargo operations. It is second in yearly air cargo volume to Norcust-Hartfer International Airport. Royal Radictistan Airways Freight and its main competitor Radictistan Air Parcel Service both operate frequent cargo services and foreign cargo aircraft can also be seen regularly. A small rail freight terminal provides a link to the Royal Radictistan Railways network.

Ground transportation

Within airport

The AirLink system is made up of a straddle-beam monorail operating on a continuous loop with two platforms per station. This configuration allows passengers transferring between terminals to choose the most efficient direction of travel rather than being constrained to a single direction. There are eight stations located within the secure zone, two for each terminal. The system has been criticized for being a vanity project as an automated people mover system would serve the airport just as well with lower capital costs.

To and from airport

Nuxenstat Xenocimedes Radicti International Airport is connected to both the national railway network's Nuxenstat-Hartfer Main Line and the Nuxenstat Metro (Red Line). Both underground and above ground rail services are provided by the Nuxenstat Metropolitan Transit Authority. Bus services also available to convey passengers to and from downtown Nuxenstat. On-ramps to the A10 motorway, which connects Nuxenstat and Hartfer, are easily accessible from the airport.

Military use

Nuxenstat Central Air Base is located adjacent to the civilian facility and shares both runways and air traffic control infrastructure with the airport. The air force installation functions as the headquarters for Air Combat Command and Special Operations Command of the Royal Radictistan Air Force. In addition to headquarters units, Nuxenstat Central Air Base houses 145 Squadron, a fighter unit flying the Su-35BM, 42 Squadron flying the Ka-60 transport helicopter, 82 Squadron flying the Mi-17V5 transport helicopter, 28 Squadron flying the An-124 strategic airlifter, and 18 (Security) Squadron. Other air force units routinely visit the base for short periods.
