This article lists the Political Parties of The North American Socialist Commonwealth.

Brief History & Overview

Prior to the 2030 Revolution, The United States was, for most of its history, a two party system. Thanks to its Plurality voting system voting system, third parties largely were unable to make any significant headway in national elections, barring the occasional isolated seat in Congress. From the mid-19th Century onwards, the political discourse was dominated by the Democratic and Republican parties, which were liberal and conservative respectively. This changed with the Revolution, which turned the traditional system on its head.

Since the Revolution national elections (for the most part), use a proportional system. This has led indirectly to an explosion in the number of political parties that have recognition at least on the district level. As of the 2062 elections, there are 14 political parties with seats in the National Parliament and/or the Congress of Soviets, and 5 more that have reached a relevant status on the district level.

Major Parties

Major parties are those that have seats in the Parliament, or the Congress of Soviets.

Name Seats in Parliament Seats in Congress Ministries Controlled Seats on Supreme Court Notes
Socialist Popular Front (SPF) 600 75 3 4 A recently formed party, created out a conglomeration of the Socialist Worker's Party and the Communist People's Party. Strong populist showing in the 2066 elections due in part to the official backing of the Orteguistas.
Green Progressive Party (GPP) 300 50 3 3 A recently formed party created by the merger of the Green Party and the Progressive Party. Based on a centrist, environmentally friendly party oriented around combating climate change's worst effects and creating infrastructure capable of being 100% sustainable. Substantial following from both of its constituent former parties.
Social Democratic Party (SDP) 200 35 2 1 A Big Tent center-left party. Espouses Social Democratic "Third Way" economic policy, with its leftist wing being more market socialist in outlook. Is broadly liberal socially speaking. Due to the strong showing of several merged parties, and the alienation of the leftist portion of the SDP, the Social Democrats suffered a heavy defeat in the 2066 general election being knocked down to third largest party in the Commonwealth's power structure.
Conservative Restoration Party (COR) 200 35 1 0 Formed in a merge of the Conservative Party and the National Restoration Party. Had a very strong showing in the 2066 elections, campaigning on a broader platform more inclusive of denizens of the Veiled Isle.
Democratic Liberty Party (LDP) 125 30 0 0 Formed in a merge of the Liberty Party and the Liberal Democratic Party. Had a weak showing in the 2066 general election as a result of the increasing polarization of the Commonwealth between its right and left leaning bodies politic. Pushed into minor opposition in Parliament. A broadly centrist to center right party.
Keldonia Independence Party (KIP) 25 10 0 0 The Keldonia Independence Party is a fairly centrist that primarily is focused around making The Veiled Isle and independent nation once again. It is supported by a coalition of Far Right "Keldonian Nationalists", as well as centrist and even left wing mainlanders who are sick of the "hassle" of maintaining the District. As such, it is often conflicted heavily on platforms other than meeting this aim. A series of events angering Veiled Isle residents led to a very strong showing in the 2066 General elections, more than doubling the KIP's presence in Parliament.
Revolutionary Leftist Front (RLF) 25 5 0 0 Formerly known as the Communist Revolutionary Party, absorbed National Unity Party, and changed name to pool vote. Decline in support among the left in the off-world territories (especially the defection of almost all of the Orteguistas from Verde) led to a stunning electoral defeat in the 2066 general elections.
Moralist Party (MOP) 20 5 0 0 The Moralist Party is a social conservative, economic centrist party, based on the legalization of Moral Values. It was formerly a religiously oriented party, supporting the making of Evangelical Protestantism the state religion of the Commonwealth, but has dropped this position since the opening, and softened a bit. This resulted in an explosion in popularity, especially in The Veiled Isle. Lost some ground to other Conservative Parties (particularly the National Front) in the 2066 general election.
National Front (NAT) 5 5 0 0 Formerly a classical fascist party, the National Front has changed its name (from National Corporatist Party) and softened its stance prior to the 2066 general election. This change did prove itself fairly effectively in the 2066 election. It is broadly against the republic and supports the establishment of a fascist state, but in the short term is for heavily restricting immigration

Regional Major Parties

Regional Parties are those that have seats in District Governments, but not the National Government.

Isla Verde

Major Verdean Parties

Verde Independence Party (VIP) 30 10 The Verdean Independence Party is a party oriented around gaining independence for Isla Verde. It has a small but growing following in Isla Verde. However, it has been unable to gain national seats due to the favorable position of Verde on the Mainland, and its lack of a national platform beyond this goal.
Verde Unity Party (VUP) 10 1 The Verde Unity Party is an expansionist party, looking to restore the Verde Empire. This party has only a small following in Castille. This party is of course, pro independence, and therefore is unable to attain success on a national scale.

Veiled Isle

Major Veiled Isle Parties
Party Justicariat Notes
Keldonian Republic Party (KRP) 20 The Keldonian Republican Party is a Party for the Justicariat of the Veiled Isle. It, unlike the Keldonia Independence Party supports the abolition of the Veiled Isle's monarchy entirely and the establishmend of the autonomous district as a Republic. It is currently the second largest party in the Justicariat, and is the only Republican Party to desire continued membership in the Commonwealth.
Crown Loyalists (LOY) 40 The Crown Loyalists are the "establishment" party of the of the Veiled Isle. It supports the queen of the Veiled Isle, and all of her actions, including her decision to become and remain a part of the Commonwealth, and a relaxation and resettlement program for the Unbidden that are trying to flee from the "False God of Isilbrun.
Serionian Ecclesiastes Party (SEP) 10 The Serionian Ecclesiastes Party represents the interests of the Church of the Ecclesiastes of Serion. It is a highly human supremacist, and conservative wing of the Justicariat. Since the policies of the new queen came into effect the SEP began to support a Republican movement.
